Ymir's Children
In the collection of Mead Hall Poems and Skaldic teachings known as the Edda's it is said that the Primordial Giant and Father of the Jotnar Ymir was slain by Odin alongside his brothers Vili and Ve, from the body of this great giant they crafted Midgard, his flesh becoming the earth, his blood the oceans, his bones the hills, his skull the very sky above and his hair the trees.
The same trees that would eventually be used to form Ask and Embla, as a result by the Lore of the Edda's Humans are made of the back hair of Ymir!
Man is made from the flesh of THE GIANT and we are therefore in flesh Jotuns, Hello Fellow Jotun how fare'th thee this Yule?

Arctic Fox, Companion of Paleo Man
What if I told you Our Ancestors Domesticated Foxes?
Foxes have always found themselves alongside Mankind, even tens of thousands of years ago in the Upper Paleolithic the Arctic Fox found itself near our ancestors settlements. Hunted and then welcomed in as an animal of value both sacral and functional.
The Arctic Fox and Red Fox were both sought after for fur, meat and even their teeth for use as ornamentation. They even doubled as pest control. Memories of this are found across Europe.
In reality Foxes are just as easy to domesticate as Wolves, even if it does not seem that way with a ready made Rover on hand.
The Arctic Fox was so integral to our ancestors that some were even buried beneath the Hearth as we have done for beloved family members until this last century. (Byki 1)
Foxes became increasingly used to these talented kindly humans until they began to change before our eyes. After tens of thousands of years the Fox domesticated by our ancestors looks nothing like it did back then. It is smaller or bigger, with curlier fur and floppy ears. While its fellow Arctic Foxes headed North and the Red Fox remained in the Old Forests of Hyperborea.
Foxes were domesticated the same as wolves, with one focusing on larger hunting while the other remained home being used as we do many domesticated animals such as cats and rabbits.
This past was forgotten and The Dog all became former wolves regardless of size, shape or that dog you saw that looked exactly like a fox.
So is it true? I wonder.... but given we semi-domesticated Leopards, Hyenas, Ostriches and Zebras as well as the tame nature of Arctic Foxes I'd say Yes. -TLK

A Lesson From Othin
Someone is impersonating our friend at Aethelwulf Art which is infuriating!.. but also a chance for a lesson, so here we go!
As you can tell by the pictures this is NOT him but an impersonator who like most are not very good at their chosen craft. So what is the lesson we can take away from this apart from a general warning to the community?
Our Gods demand only the best!
Well first of all whatever you do, do it well, put in the effort to really succeed, to be GREAT! Even should you fall short of the ultimate goal you will have put in the effort required and that is what our Gods demand of each and every one of us at all times in everything we do.
So where did this impersonator foreign to our people and our nature fail?
First there was an over reliance on the naΓ―ve and hopeful nature of our people failing to do any research into the one being imitated in the vain hopes of profit.
Whoever this wanna be imposter is couldn't even be bothered to study their subject

-so no pressure- That very same effort, that genuine pursuit of greatness is what will make you be remembered; success or failure is completely beside the point.
-an issue which is prominent in many fields-
Secondly they messaged someone who knew the one they were impersonating on a personal level -an extremely rookie move-
Thirdly the way they approached and tried to go about the scam was blatant and showed why paying attention to the above two points is imperative should you decide to be a follower of Othin, The Beggar King picking up his predilection for cons and thievery. -
Whatever you do whether law abiding or law subsiding remember something very important:Our Gods are not gentle nor forgiving of failure.

The Legend of Santa Claus
"Born in the Yuletide in times long past some say he is a spirit, others a forest god, some say he is a man of flesh and blood just as you or I. He is all of these and more. Many of us grew up hearing the stories of a Jolly Old Elf riding across the sky and flying down the chimney delivering gifts from his endless sack of toys, children filled with Christmas glee would leave cookies and milk, tobacco and carrots all for this Christmas gift giver. Yet his story is much much more told bit by bit over the centuries his myth as rich as any other.
In the genesis of his tale he walked door to door across the snowy landscape, stars in the sky, breath frozen in the raging blizzards. A Yule Log or tree strapped to his back and an ax hanging from his side. He was alone. A Yuletide traveler stopping place to place with gifts, for he was a toy-maker adorned in rich furs and smelling of pipe tobacco. Some children greeted him with joyful smiles others with cries of terror as they would be spirited away never to see their families again while they toiled among his Elves. Other times he held the reins of a horse or stag much like other ghosts of the Parade of Spirits. He was on foot or on hoof and following him were the winds of winter, frost and snow freezing the cobblestone paths and windows he passed. His abode like others of German and American myth was a great castle, it appeared out of no....".-Excerpt from The Origins of Santa Claus by I.M Knosp

How Old is The Snowman?
When or Why did we first make him?
A mirror of ourselves made of downy snow? An instinctive action, an instinctive veneration; for Good Old Mr. Snowman.
Long before the coming of the Church, Snowmen were built in the dawn and dusk of Winter with children's songs of innocent glee.
They sang when he was made, they sang when he was dressed but most of all they sang when he banished away disease and weary days.
The Church did their best to snuff him out, this Frosty Man, This Jolly Happy Soul, with his smoking pipe, button nose and his eyes made out of deep black coal. They set bonfires to melt their competition, they smashed him prematurely.
Despite their best efforts it is of no consequence for he'll be back again some day. He'll play with the children rough as wild cubs, then when fell apart before his pure snow may be blemished, freed to fall again as Winter's restful blanket.
They'll never win, for the Snowman is old, older than we know. From the Front Yards of Midwestern Children, To being thanked for ridding families of the black plague with a circle dance and a grim and joyous "Ring Around The Rosy", to the cold cold Winters of the Long Long Ago. On and on eternally he is so comfortable, so bright, so merry.
So the real question?
Do You Want to Build a Snowman?-TLK

Lovers in a Sleigh by Alfred von Wierusz-Kowalski
"Giddy-yap giddy-yap giddy-yap it's grandJust holding your hand
We're gliding along with the song
Of a wintry fairy land
Our cheeks are nice and rosy
And comfy cozy are we
We're snuggled up together like two
Birds of a feather would be
Let's take the road before us
And sing a chorus or two
Come on, it's lovely weather
For a sleigh ride together with you
There's a birthday party at the home of Farmer Gray
It'll be the perfect ending of a perfect day
We'll be singing the songs we love to sing without a single stop
At the fireplace while we watch the chestnuts pop
Pop! Pop! Pop!"-Sleigh Ride

Winter Solstice by Hermann Vogel 1905
Dear Winter, Thank You for all your gifts. For the long night with its stars and moon that shine their soft subtle glow.
For the downy blanket you spread across the land, allowing rest and peace to our tender Wintersleep.
For the time with Kin that we treasure so. For the aid in hunts to keep our bellies full.
For your watchful hand that blocks out pestilence and plague. For the Songs we sing and games we play.
For all these gifts and more Dear Winter we thank you so. And while many may not see the myriad of gifts you give to us free.
Our gratitude does not waver, for your chill sparkling splendor.
Happy Winter Solstice and May Winter be all that you need.
Love,

Hunter's Moon
Have you heard of the Hunter's Moon?
The Hunter's Moon is not a Scheduled Moon, it's not even necessarily a Full Moon. The Hunter's Moon is a Hunter's Moon because it is so bright it lights up the night.
Thus when combined with Winter's Glittering Snow the Hunter's Moon crafts a day nocturne. In the Den of Winter tracking is easy in the snow while daylight leads to Snow Blindness, it is in this time the Moonlit Hunt becomes a treasured event.
The Hunter, the Woodsman, the Parent with mouths to feed, the Hermit, stomachs growling for their next meal all go out into the light of the Hunter's Moon. Whether by snowshoe or pick up truck, alone or in a party this Hunt is something special.
The antler of the Stag glitters in the night, hoofprints following like sunken memories and should they escape your keen eyes one can always follow the Blood Upon the Snow.
So the real question... Have you enjoyed the Moonlit Hunt?
