after digesting multiple marketing books and materials, i've come to realise that in essence its really a matter of

context and perception

probably why i find myself being so fascinated by it

being able to bend human psychology to your advantage must really feel like playing God

marketing might actually be addictive if you're able to do it well

enjoying commuting a lot more in 2026 as well

i find the odd solitude peaceful because it means that i get an undisturbed window of time whereby i get to read my books

in addition, finding myself listening to less music in general too and it feels like i'm getting sick of it? spotify hours are dropping a lot and songs don't stick as long as they used to anymore

has anyone gone through this feeling before as well?
Persona over authenticity

In my opinion the worst advice you can give someone starting out is to ‘be authentic or be yourself’.

Beyond the fact that it’s really vague, social media is a Colosseum—it is performative by design.

As I wrote in The Guardian a few months ago, what we call ‘authenticity’ is itself an aesthetic that is performed for the camera.

The Riddle of the Well-Paying, Pointless Job https://x.com/moretothat/status/2014106465708155368?s=20
This is why a side hustle is so important if you have a pointless job (and if you want work to be a source of meaning in life). Since there are no motivating factors present at your day job, you must get those from somewhere else. Perhaps the hygiene factors aren’t quite there for the side hustle (it might not be making money, things feel a bit lonely, etc.), but if the motivators are present, then that can make you feel good about what you’re doing.

The key is to have the water level of the overall work satisfaction cup above the baseline as much as possible. If you have a pointless day job that pays the bills, take advantage of your financial security and spend your available time working on the things that truly motivate you. The net effect of these cups is what really matters, and with enough effort and intention, you just might be able to transition full-time to the work that you find meaningful.

If a side hustle doesn’t sound like the solution, then either it’s time to find another job, or it’s time to find ways to make your current job more motivating. This is something that goes beyond the scope of this post, but I’m sure it will involve some combination of deep, inner soul-searching and a bunch of difficult, daunting, yet necessary conversations with your team.

extreme takes here, its the way to generate virality tho

regardless, there are some good lessons here

take what resonates, leave what doesn't

The Diary Of A CEO by Steven Bartlett

Recommendation from a colleague. Steven kept to his promise of it not being a long winded book. Easy read. Finally read his book after listening to his podcasts for a while.

main takeaways:
- if you want someone to be receptive, never start your response with a disagreement.
- questions prompt a psychological reaction that is different from statements. questions are a better form of call to action.
- to overcome a habit, do not fight against it. replace it with a positive loop instead.
- small wins are compact, tangible, upbeat, and non controversial. don’t underestimate the power of small wins.

fav quotes:
There is no greater form of gratitude than taking care of yourself.

It’s nearly always cheaper, easier and more effective to invest in perception than reality.

4.5/5 good pick up

one of the wonders of the human mind (or maybe even the world) is the split second when one draws inspiration out of the blue from everyday life

it has already struck me twice this year through 1) an interview video, 2) a book

which led to certain breakthroughs in thought processes

i feel compelled to write a beautiful descriptive paragraph of how it felt during the strokes of eureka, but my linguistic ability does not allow me to do so yet

chatgpt would kind of defeat the purpose of it as well

i believe everyone has had that moment before too

reminds me of a quote i read a long time ago which holds so true

somehow, we are all suspended in language

spent the last 4h claude-ing my new mini project

i'm trying to build a personal book bank!

turns out after all my efforts in keying books & reviews, the website does not reflect whatever i've done on another person's device...

part of the process innit
