Understand I'm not aiming to make any claims about the actuality of these conditions, only our common understanding of them. In this essay I will explain why this meme is poorly constructed.
Schizo is cognate with schism and schizophrenia is Greek for "split mind". During their psychotic breaks (now our return to the theme of fracture) they experience delusions and hallucinations as things apart from themselves, as the outside world. To the schizo everything is separate: the voices are from outside, the network of gangstalkers is an external threat.
Autism, meanwhile, is often explained as a poorly developed theory of mind, resulting in social deficits and problems communicating. The imagined autistic subject is almost a solipsist, alone in their own mind. What could be more connected than the internal world of somebody who recognizes nothing beyond themself?
