And once one accepts the principle that the state alone should possess the decisive means of force, one is already moving toward a position — or at the very least helping to create the conditions — in which state-sanctioned violence, and even murder, may be treated as acceptable, legitimate, and morally justified so long as it is carried out under the color of law.
