Many medical and scientific experts agree that bacteria, not influenza viruses, were the most significant cause of death during the 1918 flu pandemic.
"We agree completely that bacterial pneumonia played a major role in the mortality of the 1918 pandemic," says Anthony Fauci.
A study from 2014 indicates why this might have been the case. Masks serve as incubators for bacteria, fungi and other pathogens.
