BRICS Expert Council-Russia organises HSE CS × BRICS Ideathon

On November 9, HSE University hosted the HSE CS × BRICS Ideathon, a large-scale intensive programme for students designed to build their project skills and find solutions to current BRICS challenges. Supported by the BRICS Expert Council-Russia, the event was part of a broader effort to foster youth initiatives and expand educational cooperation within the BRICS framework.

The Ideathon gathered 🕊🕊🕊 participants, who formed 🕊🕊 teams to conceptualise and create prototypes of solutions to promote sustainable and technological development of the BRICS nations—all within a single day. Following a short introduction to the BRICS philosophy, students took part in a series of workshops.

After teams received their case assignments, the most intensive phase began: project development. For four hours, participants worked alongside mentors to develop solutions across diverse fields—from digital platforms to sustainable development.

The HSE CS x BRICS Ideathon once again demonstrated that creativity, knowledge, and teamwork can spark new initiatives that strengthen cooperation among the #BRICS nations and help build a more open, sustainable, and equitable world.

Journalists from Latin America Meet with Victoria Panova at HSE University

Victoria Panova, Head of the BRICS Expert Council-Russia and Vice Rector at HSE University, met with Latin American journalists participating in the InteRussia internship programme, launched by the Alexander Gorchakov Public Diplomacy Fund.

Before the meeting, guests from Latin America had a campus tour of the HSE University and learned about its student life. Victoria Panova then delivered a brief lecture covering the history of #BRICS, its core goals, current challenges, and strategic priorities.

The meeting was held in an open and friendly atmosphere, creating a space for meaningful dialogue on the future of global cooperation and the role of journalism in strengthening the understanding between nations.

Indonesia's Foreign Policy Priorities and Partnership with Russia Explored at Inostranka

The Library for Foreign Literature (Inostranka) hosted a lecture titled "Tropical Dialogue: Russia and Indonesia in the Rhythm of BRICS," organised by the BRICS Expert Council-Russia together with the BRICS+ Information and Cultural Media Centre. The event was held during the Indonesian Culture Days at Inostranka as part of a public lecture series focused on the BRICS nations.

Presenting the lecture was Alexander Korolev @askorolev1993, Deputy Director of the Centre for Comprehensive European and International Studies (CCEIS) and Associate Professor at the School of International Relations under the Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs at HSE University.

He explained that Indonesia initially viewed BRICS with caution, perceiving it as another bloc. However, under new President Prabowo Subianto, its stance has shifted. Indonesia now sees #BRICS as a chance to bolster its multi-vector diplomacy and international influence while deepening ties across the Global South.

The decision to join BRICS was motivated not by opposition to the West, but by a focus on economic growth and broader global engagement. Key factors in its accession include its status as Southeast Asia's largest economy, the world's most populous Muslim nation, its active role in the #G20, #ASEAN, and #RCEP, and its considerable demographic and intellectual potential.

BRICS and Global (Dis)Order: What Is on Offer?

As traditional multilateral institutions face mounting challenges, groupings like BRICS are increasingly viewed as potential architects of an emerging world order. This bloc – comprising some of the most influential non-Western economies – has expanded its membership and ambition, positioning itself not only as a voice for the Global South but as a viable alternative to existing governance frameworks.

During this session at the 16th Asian Conference, Valdai Club experts examined what #BRICS truly offers: Does it present a cohesive model for a new multilateralism?
