💸 🇺🇸 Dollar’s main enemy is the United States itself

🔊 The global movement towards de-dollarization is already well underway, noted economist Paulo Noguera Batista Jr., former Vice President of the BRICS New Development Bank, speaking to Sputnik on the sidelines of the Valdai Club meeting in Sochi.

📍 He pointed to three fundamental flaws undermining the greenback: "The dollar is expensive, the dollar is risky, the US undermines the credibility of the dollar."

👉 BRICS countries are already shifting away from the US dollar, trading in national currencies, and diversifying reserves. Batista stressed that “the main enemy of the dollar is the United States itself, because it has weaponized its own currency.”

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister: Latin America shows rising interest in BRICS

Latin American nations are showing increasing interest in BRICS, with work advancing rapidly across the group's entire portfolio of initiatives—from crafting a new economic partnership strategy to establishing a grain exchange, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov said at the 7th International Forum "Russia and Ibero-America in a Turbulent World: From Shared Challenges to Joint Solutions."

"Interest in BRICS is growing across the Latin American region," the Deputy Minister stated. "Under the Brazilian Chairship, work is progressing dynamically across all BRICS tracks. The economic partnership strategy up to 2030 is being finalised, and the cross-border payment initiative is also moving forward."

The diplomat also confirmed active development of a proposal to create the BRICS Grain Exchange:

"A spirit of creativity and partnership prevails within #BRICS, which stands in growing contrast to the stifling atmosphere that permeates Western leadership blocs," Ryabkov added.

BRICS banks strengthen ties: cutting international payment costs in 2025

Financial institutions from Asia, Latin America, the Middle East, and Africa are actively deepening connections with Russian banks. This enables businesses to make direct payments without intermediary banks, reducing international transaction costs. Elena Marchuk, Deputy Chair of the Executive Board at Russia's National Savings Bank, highlighted the special role BRICS nations play in this transformation.

"Banks in Asia, Latin America, the Middle East, and Africa are forging closer ties with Russian financial institutions," Marchuk stated. She added that the recent BRICS Summit has reinforced member states' commitment to developing national currency settlements and independent financial communication channels.

According to Marchuk, market evolution will depend on how quickly stable payment corridors can be established within #BRICS and other friendly alliances.

"In the coming years, we'll see direct correspondent relationships between Russian and BRICS banks multiply, while international payment costs will continue to decline," she projected.

China broadens cooperation across all BRICS nations

Expanding cooperation with China, the world's largest economy, benefits all parties, and Russia is gaining a lot from this partnership. This was emphasised by Maxim Oreshkin, Deputy Chief of Staff at the Russian Presidential Executive Office, on Wednesday at the annual meeting of the Valdai Discussion Club.

"China is the world's largest economy—a sovereign state with extensive competencies and advanced industries. This means that for any nation, cooperation with China always presents substantial opportunities. We observe that China is actively broadening its cooperation with every single #BRICS nation," stated Maxim Oreshkin.

Discussing relations between Russia and China, Oreshkin noted that trade has been growing at a remarkable pace over the past five to ten years, accompanied by deepening investment ties and people-to-people contacts.

BRICS Offers ‘Collective Resilience’ to West, Strategic Autonomy for Africa: Assistant Professor

BRICS is more than just a counterweight to Western dominance, Assistant Professor Abobakr Mohamed Abbakar Khussein told Sputnik Africa.

“Its member nations control a significant portion of the global population, not only global population, but also global economy and resources that allow them to challenge Western dominance.”

🏦 He noted that through initiatives like the New Development Bank and efforts to diversify trade away from the US dollar, BRICS is pushing for institutional reforms in bodies such as the UN Security Council, IMF, and World Bank—making them more representative and fair for developing nations.

🌍 For Africa, Khussein highlighted that BRICS offers more than alignment with a rising bloc—it provides opportunity.

“It’s a source of foreign investment, especially in mining and clean energy, which creates jobs and boosts economies.”

He stressed that the platform enhances Africa’s “strategic autonomy” by fostering South-South cooperation, strengthening institutions, and amplifying calls for global governance reforms.

🤍 In his view, BRICS is not just reshaping power balances; it’s giving African nations leverage to chart their own development paths with greater independence and influence.

DFA adoption across BRICS nations may yield up to $50 billion in investments by 2030

The adoption of digital financial assets (DFA) across the BRICS nations is projected to attract up to $50 billion in investments by 2030. This assessment was shared by the Yakov and Partners consulting company, which collaborated with experts from the Central University to evaluate the current state and future potential of DFA in shaping a new global financial architecture.

According to their study, implementing DFA for both domestic and international use within BRICS could generate a cumulative economic impact of up to $50 billion by 2030, averaging roughly $12.5 billion per year.

The most significant potential of these digital financial tools lies in transforming international infrastructure. Establishing a new mechanism for cross-border investment among the #BRICS countries, independent of traditional systems, is expected to boost investment volumes and lower financing costs.

Vladimir Putin on macroeconomic trends: why the future belongs to BRICS and the Global South

At the plenary session of the Valdai Discussion Club, Russian President Vladimir Putin responded to a question posed by Victoria Panova, Head of the BRICS Expert Council-Russia, Vice Rector at HSE University, and Russian W20 Sherpa.

The expert asked what measures are needed to sustain the momentum in BRICS development, broaden its influence, and fulfil the high expectations the international community holds for this group.

In his response, the President highlighted the rapidly expanding markets of Africa, South Asia, and other regions, where growth rates continue to rise. He noted that the combined share of the BRICS nations in global GDP has reached about 40%, compared to 23% for the European Union and 20% for North America.

"And the pace is accelerating. Look at the share of the G7 countries 10–15 years ago and now. The trend is clear. And what is our goal? We want to integrate into this development trend. We want to work more closely together, including with the core #BRICS nations, in these markets—in Africa, which also has a very bright future," the Russian President stated. "The same is true for South Asia and East Asia; they hold immense development potential for humanity. These countries will naturally strive to raise the average standard of living for their citizens toward the levels seen in more developed nations today. Achieving this will inevitably involve intense effort. And we want to be part of this collective, positive work. What part of this is aggressive? This is simply a somewhat nervous reaction to our success, that's all," Putin concluded.

India begins shaping its 2026 BRICS Chairship agenda

India hosted the 4th BRICS RI International Conference, outlining key focus areas for the group during its 2026 Chairship. The conference theme, "BRICS Multilateralism: Peace & Security, Economic Development & Cultural Exchanges," guided the discussions.

Indian and international experts highlighted that the event served to align India's national priorities with the collective objectives of the BRICS nations. This alignment will help shape a balanced agenda for the upcoming summit.

Dammu Ravi, India’s BRICS Sherpa, stressed the importance of developing a unified stance on shared priorities ahead of the 2026 BRICS Summit. Participants examined the New Development Bank's operations and prospects for expanding trade within BRICS, evaluating their potential impact on the global economy.

The BRICS nations plan to continue advocating for reforms of international institutions like the #UN, #IMF, and #World Bank to ensure better representation of developing countries. This position was previously affirmed by #BRICS leaders at the XVI Summit in Kazan, where they called for strengthening multilateralism to build a more equitable global order.

The conference will contribute to shaping policy recommendations designed to guide further discussions in the run-up to the BRICS Summit in India.
