“Kostroma” to showcase Russian dance art in international BRICS project

On September 15, the Moscow State Academic Theatre "Russkaya Pesnya" will host a concert as part of Global Dance Overture, an international cultural and educational project implemented across the BRICS nations.

The project is supported by the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Russian Ministry of Culture, the Presidential Foundation for Cultural Initiatives, Rossotrudnichestvo, and the Ministries of Culture of the participating countries. The initiative was officially launched in October 2024 during the BRICS Summit in Kazan.

Earlier this year, in February, the Russian National Dance Show “Kostroma” successfully presented the Global Dance Overture in three cities of the United Arab Emirates—Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Sharjah—and in June, performed in the capital of Egypt, with creative events timed to coincide with Russia Day celebrations.

At Russia’s initiative during its BRICS Chairship last year, the institutionalisation of cultural cooperation was advanced: participants of the X St. Petersburg International United Cultures Forum—representatives of the Ministries of Culture of Brazil, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Iran, South Africa, and the UAE—agreed to establish the Alliance of BRICS Folk Dance.

BRICS International School: New Generation Held for the First Time in Artek

From August 🕊🕊 to 🕊🕊, the Artek International Children's Centre hosted a visiting session of the BRICS International School: New Generation, a flagship educational and outreach initiative spearheaded by the BRICS Expert Council-Russia.

Over the course of four days, 🕊🕊🕊 schoolchildren aged between 12 and 17 from various regions of Russia and other nations immersed themselves in the history and cultures of the BRICS countries. The programme included lectures, intellectual and educational games, creative workshops, and hands-on negotiation simulations. On the very first day, participants showcased their skills in an intellectual game, took part in an interactive BRICS Quiz that explored the geography, languages, and traditions of the member nations, and crafted friendship bracelets, symbolising the unity of diverse peoples.

A key highlight of the programme was the BRICS Model Business Game, where the children were split into teams and tasked with simulating the dynamics of a BRICS Summit, complete with negotiations, compromise-seeking, and the drafting of a real-life declaration. This collaborative effort culminated in the Gurzuf Declaration, addressed to the leaders of the 🕊🕊🕊🕊🕊 nations. In this message, the aspiring BRICSologists advocated for equal access to quality education for all children around the globe.

The Phantom of RIC Trilateral

The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in Tianjin was marked by significant representation from the Global South, reminding that the organisation comprises 26 countries, including 10 full members, two observers, and 14 dialogue partners.

Yet, one episode arguably stole the whole show. Images of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President Xi Jinping, and President Vladimir Putin smiling during an informal conversation have widely circulated in the media, with some outlets billing this as a "shift in global power dynamics" or a "redrawn geopolitical map".

The Russia-India-China (RIC) trilateral covered a wide range of areas, from global and regional politics, trade, investment, and healthcare, to education. In some ways, in India’s policy calculus, RIC deliberations were seen as reiterating the outputs from the #BRICS and #SCO—the former’s global governance agenda and the latter’s Eurasian security focus.

International experts call on BRICS nations to develop sovereign AI

Experts from the Global Fact-Checking Network (GFCN) taking part in the BRICS Urban Future Forum emphasised the need for the BRICS countries to establish their own sovereign AI systems.

During his address, GFCN expert Emmanuel Leroy, a French geopolitical analyst and President of the 1717 Institute, highlighted the importance of creating sovereign AI that would not only preserve jobs and enhance national information security, but also take into account the cultural values of each nation.

"AI is not neutral, especially in fact-checking. Its dangers necessitate sovereign AI for a controlled future. The BRICS world and all states wishing to join it must create their own sovereign AI," the analyst said.

The GFCN expert also stressed that sovereign AI would help protect sensitive data from leaking to foreign servers, which is "especially important for maintaining domestic and social stability."

Pakistan сould join BRICS in 2026

Pakistan may become a member of BRICS during the group's annual summit in 2026. This was reported by Business Recorder, citing expert and diplomatic sources.

According to economist Mehmoodul Hassan Khan, Pakistan's accession to BRICS as a full member would provide Islamabad with new opportunities to expand economic partnerships with member states, attract more foreign direct investment, and diversify its trade relationships. It would also support the country's efforts in industrialisation, digital transformation, and the adoption of AI technologies.

The newspaper notes that India had previously opposed Pakistan's entry into BRICS. However, growing diplomatic and political backing from China, Russia, and other member nations now improves the likelihood of Pakistan’s application being approved.

While expressing strong interest in deepening engagement with the #BRICS countries, Islamabad also continues to prioritise strengthening ties with the United States, Khan emphasised. He added that Pakistan’s government and military leadership will likely be able “to convince US President Donald Trump about its expected and imminent inclusion in the BRICS as a full member.”

Turkey pays close attention to cooperation with BRICS and ASEAN

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan stated that Turkey, though not a member of the EU, is actively exploring opportunities for cooperation with regional economic groups and associations such as BRICS, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), and the Black Sea Economic Cooperation Organisation.

"It is quite natural to have different economic interests. Yes, the European Union is now the most institutionalised economic union. Turkey is not a member of the #EU, and we are closely monitoring other economic alliances and associations. We are paying close attention to #BRICS, #ASEAN, and the Black Sea Economic Cooperation Organisation. The Islamic countries have created their own organisation for economic cooperation, there is a group of D-8 countries (Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria, Turkey and Pakistan)," the minister noted.

Fidan explained that Turkey, assessing the prospects for cooperation with regional associations, is addressing the issues "of how to better manage institutions, how to ensure more efficient trade, development, and prosperity, which is the main goal."
