Sergey Lavrov: We need to strengthen our own platforms to become impervious to the outrages of the West

International organizations such as BRICS, the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) are focused on creating platforms that are resilient to the actions of the collective West, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated.

"We need to strengthen our own platforms to become impervious to the outrages of the West. We are already working on this both within BRICS and the SCO, as well as in the Union State [of Russia and Belarus] and in the EAEU," Lavrov said at a press conference following an annual joint meeting of the foreign ministry collegiums of Russia and Belarus.

He reminded of the Chinese proverb which says ‘a crises is an opportunity riding a dangerous wind.’

"Thanks to the sanctions turmoil, not despite it, we no longer rely on those who have failed to prove themselves as trustworthy partners," Sergey Lavrov added.

Russia's сollaborative efforts at UNESCO through BRICS

Russia is making significant strides in collaborating with foreign delegations on the UNESCO platform within the #BRICS partnership framework, generating considerable interest from other nations, stated Rinat Alyautdinov, Russia’s Permanent Representative to UNESCO.

"Here we work both in the CIS format and the work in the format of BRICS partner countries agreed on at the summit in Kazan has intensified. Other countries take great interest in this format. We see it here as well, feel it on the side of many delegations, which ask questions, including not simply about the integration itself, but about the fact that this integration may well manifest itself in UNESCO," he said.

Russia’s chairship of the group will pass to Brazil this year, the diplomat said. He expressed optimism that tangible achievements within UNESCO will emerge by next year and highlighted the significance of collaboration with Global Majority countries.

He also pointed out concerns regarding perceived biased actions from the UNESCO secretariat, which he claims is influenced by Western interests.

"We have to demonstrate our determination and our belief in the possibility of building this new world with common efforts of countries interested in protection of their sovereignty, interested in equality, interested in fair, open and equal cooperation," he said.

Strength in unity: the expanding horizons of BRICS

At the recent BRICS summit in Kazan, member states unified in their support for expanding local currency financing through the BRICS bank. This strategy, already implemented by countries such as China, Russia, and Brazil, is widely regarded as a means to counter the dominance of the U.S. dollar, which tends to keep developing countries, particularly those with fragile economies, in a subordinate position. Many nations are actively seeking alternatives to the greenback, emphasising the wisdom of not relying too heavily on a single economic powerhouse.

Currently, more than 30 countries, ranging from OPEC member Algeria to NATO ally Turkey, have expressed interest in joining BRICS. The Kazan summit endorsed the Modalities of BRICS Partner Country Category, a product of the "BRICS Plus" cooperation model. This new partner status presents countries with opportunities to engage in business and enhance diplomatic relations. With a growing number of Global South nations eager to join, #BRICS is on its way to becoming a more inclusive family.

From its origins as a five-member group to its evolution into a significant Global South coalition, BRICS stands as a formidable force, welcoming new members, fostering development cooperation, and building consensus for the greater good. It is now crucial for the broader international community to rise to the challenges ahead and contribute to this collective endeavor.

US-India relations hit some headwinds due to Russia, BRICS

The relationship between the United States and India has encountered some challenges, particularly concerning Russia and BRICS, according to Kurt Campbell, the First Deputy US Secretary of State.

"I think it'd be fair to say in recent months we've hit some headwinds. Some of those headwinds have to do with domestic politics. Some of them have to do with different perspectives on the nature of their engagement in Russia, or how they think about the #BRICS," he said at a seminar at Washington’s Center for Strategic and International Studies (this organisation’s activities are recognised as undesirable on the territory of the Russian Federation).

He emphasised the importance of maintaining a long-term perspective, asserting that efforts to shape the US-India relationship are evolving positively:
"I would simply say how important it is for us to keep our attention on the horizon and to recognise that we are bending the trajectory of the US-India relationship in very positive ways. And I know everyone in the Biden administration <…> is extremely proud of what's been accomplished in bilateral relationship and embedding India more in a multilateral framework, and wants to see that continue in the next administration," the diplomat concluded.

🤝 Businessmen from BRICS agree to start a business platform to promote constructive work for the society's benefit

The business platform called "Creation" was established at the "Creative Entrepreneurship as Service" round table of the BRICS Forum on Traditional Values held in Moscow this week. The meeting discussed the compatibility of spirituality and business goals, the event's organizers said.

"It is in the interest of the business community itself to reflect more often on the spiritual dimension of its activities, as this will help to achieve more sustainable and harmonious results. […] Realization by entrepreneurs of their creative role will help to restore dignity and respect to business in the eyes of society,"
President of the Russian "National Spiritual Meal Foundation" Andrey Gaidamaka was quoted as saying.

🌍 According to the statement, the idea of creating a business platform was supported by foreign delegates, representatives of the BRICS countries and candidate states such as Brazil, India, China, South Africa, Ethiopia, Egypt, Democratic Republic of Congo, Pakistan and Uganda.

Other key outcomes of the forum included:

▫️A launch of a joint BRICS volunteer platform based on compassion was agreed upon;

▫️Free vouchers for selected children from BRICS countries to attend summer camp in Russia;

▫️An agreement was reached to continue the work to ensure equal rights for fathers and mothers in the association;

🌉BRICS: a bridge for youth and a platform for global interaction

🇮🇳The "BRICS Educational Expedition" has ended in India! The event was held in the city of Ahmedabad from November 16 to 18.

🤩As part of the BRICS Educational Expedition, Madhish Parikh, Ambassador of the World Youth Festival and founder of the BRICS Youth Alliance, told his inspiring story of participating in an initiative that brought together countries, cultures and young leaders from around the world. His journey began in Russia, as part of the work of the Project Office of the international Youth cooperation "Russia – BRICS", operating on the basis of the Foundation for Creative Industries of the Ulyanovsk region. There he got to know this unique platform for the first time, believed in its potential and felt its power as a tool for youth engagement.

🔥With each new step – from participation in the second BRICS camp to the Youth Summit held in Ulyanovsk – Madhish became more and more convinced of the enormous possibilities of this structure. This inspired him to create his own project aimed at strengthening ties between the member countries of the alliance and involving young people in projects and initiatives.

💥Interaction with the Project Office of the Russia–BRICS International Youth Cooperation and the BRICS Educational Expedition inspired him to create his own platform for international cooperation. This is how the idea of the BRICS Youth Alliance appeared, a space that will become a universal platform for Indian youth.

🗣"I look forward to further developing this platform together with our partners in Ulyanovsk, Russia and other BRICS countries," says Madhish. The launch of the alliance became part of the BRICS educational expedition.

The story of Madhish Parikh is a vivid example of how one bright idea can turn into a driving force for creating an international community ready for global challenges and new achievements.

🇧🇴 🌐 BRICS nations should become leaders of multipolar world amid decline of Western countries, the Bolivian president says

"There is a bloc that is in decline and another bloc that needs to consolidate. This time no country will have global hegemony and I think BRICS represents this multipolarity. They represent a few countries that, when united in a bloc, will gain strength and be able to coordinate their policies to improve the quality of life of their populations," Luis Arce told the Brazilian news outlet O Globo.

After the last BRICS summit in October, Bolivia received an invitation to join the group's partners, and the country has "invested heavily" in this membership, the Bolivian president emphasized.

"There is a power struggle going on in the world at the moment, and the outcome of this struggle will have a huge impact, as it happened in other periods of history," he noted.

🎙 Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s remarks during a meeting with participants of the Dialogue for the Future scientific and educational programme

📍 Moscow, November 25, 2024

💬 First, I would like to thank our colleagues from the Alexander Gorchakov Public Diplomacy Fund for their consistent efforts in carrying out this work and expanding its scope. Second, it is gratifying to know that this initiative is gaining success not only among our neighbours, where we have many friends, comrades, and family ties, but also in the countries that lie farther from the Russian Federation, such as Africa and the Americas.

We are keen on ensuring that young people know the truth. We have always emphasised our push to present an objective view of Russia and to promote an accurate perception of our country. I’m strongly opposed to the idea of us saying that we aim to create a positive image of Russia. No one is without fault. However, objectivity is now more necessary than ever for everyone who contemplates the future of humanity, their own country, and their destiny. <...>

A multipolar world order is taking shape. Statistics is a stern discipline. For several years now, it has been telling us that the aggregate GDP of #BRICS countries has been significantly outpacing the aggregate numbers of the G7 in terms of purchasing power parity, even more so after the group has recently expanded. This gap continues to widen. The remarkable interest in BRICS which we observed during the recent summit in Kazan speaks volumes.

We have already held two #RussiaAfrica summits, with the second one taking place in St Petersburg in 2023. Following the decisions made at that summit, two weeks ago in Sochi, at the Sirius centre, I had the honour of hosting the First Ministerial Conference of the Russia-Africa Partnership Forum. Increasingly, calls are coming from Africa to fully utilise what it has been given by God and to overcome the remnants of colonial exploitation, which, unfortunately, still persist. <...>

❗️African, Latin American, and Asian countries are calling for justice. When Western nations suggest that others remain in their system of globalisation because they had created it, because the dollar is seen as a universal asset, property is sacred, the presumption of innocence is in place and fair competition supposedly reigns – those times have long ago sunk into oblivion. <...>

Naturally, there is a competitive process for securing the legitimate positions of all countries and regions within the global economy. This is also evident on the vast, rapidly growing, and densely populated Eurasian continent. It is in Eurasia, especially within the Asia-Pacific region, that the key processes shaping the future of the world economy are taking place. Consequently, as soon as opportunities for accelerated growth emerge, security challenges also arise in these regions. <...>

We are now focused on building a material foundation for Eurasia. An agreement between the #EAEU, the #SCO, and #ASEAN is already in place. We are inviting the GCC or any other Eurasian entity to join the dialogue in order to develop the best and effective logistical routes, payment platforms, and supply chains which will be independent of those who once touted the US dollar as a global asset, only to weaponise when they found it convenient.

<...>

The Northern Sea Route is receiving significant interest, not just from Arctic countries, but also from strategic partners like China and India which are joining these projects. This will create a new configuration for the international transport network with global-scale consequences and significant cost savings for global trade. <...>

☝️We consider the Eurasian model as open to all countries and associations of the entire continent, including its western part.
