The further development of the BRICS will depend on many circumstances. Not all member states consider their participation in the bloc a priority. However, the general movement toward diversification of the world order and away from any one groupโs domination will continue, and the BRICS will play an increasing role in this, writes Fyodor Lukyanov, Editor-in-Chief of Russia in Global Affairs magazine, for Council of Councils.

๐ณ๐ฆ Namibia eyes BRICS membership, seeking closer ties with progressive nations, says ambassador to Moscow
๐ฃ "You cannot be behind it [this process], which will open up interaction with progressive nations for us," Namibia's ambassador to Moscow, Clemens Handuukeme Kashuupulwa, told Russian media on the sidelines of the first ministerial conference of the Russia-Africa Partnership Forum in Sochi.
Kashuupulwa stressed the potential benefits of closer ties with the influential bloc of emerging economies. He noted that while Namibia is actively working towards potential BRICS membership, the process has been delayed due to the death of the Namibian president and the upcoming elections scheduled for November 27.
๐ฃ "We are working closely with South Africa [on this matter], but for the moment we are not yet prepared to be members of BRICS," explained Ambassador Kashuupulwa.
The BRICS group, initially formed by Brazil, Russia, India, and China in 2006, expanded in 2011 to include South Africa and then further expanded in 2024 to invite several new countries, including Egypt and Ethiopia.
Following the recent BRICS summit in Kazan, Russia's President Vladimir Putin announced an expansion of the bloc with the establishment of a BRICS partner status. According to Putin, invitations will be sent to potential partner countries, and their acceptance will mark their official inclusion in the BRICS partnership framework.

The West aims to preserve dominance by undermining regional stability: Russian defense minister
MOSCOW, Nov. 12 (Xinhua) -- In a bid to preserve its global dominance, the West is attempting to undermine regional stability, Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov said on Tuesday.
"In order to preserve its role of the hegemon, the collective West is trying to undermine regional stability," Belousov said at a meeting of the Council of Defense Ministers of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) in Moscow.

China-Russia ัooperation to help avoid global crisis
Close contacts between China and Russia across various sectors enable the two countries to stabilise the regional situation and avert a global crisis, said Zhang Hong, at the Institute of Russian, Eastern European and Central Asian Studies of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.
The expert clarified that Beijing and Moscow maintain communication through various channels, yielding specific results due to their strong mutual trust. He noted that China supports Russia on multilateral platforms such as #BRICS and the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO).
The European Union is expressing concern over the close partnership between China and Russia, as it "may pose a challenge to the West-dominated world order," Zhang Hong pointed out. He reminded that China-Russia relations are characterised by non-confrontation and an absence of targeting toward any third parties, which he believes is the right approach for major states to interact with one another.

๐ณ๐ฌ๐ It's only a matter of time before Nigeria becomes a full member of BRICS, says former vice-presidential candidate
๐ฃ "Our partnership with BRICS will change a lot of things," Dr. Emmanuel Chukwuka Johnson, a former vice-presidential candidate in Nigeria's 2023 election, told Sputnik Africa on the sidelines of the First Ministerial Conference of the #RussiaAfrica Africa Partnership Forum in Sochi, Russia.
The politician believes that Nigeria's membership in BRICS would positively impact the country's economic development by changing the way transactions and businesses are conducted.
According to him, BRICS membership would help Nigeria strengthen its currency, the naira, by reducing its dependence on the US dollar and providing more opportunities for trade with other countries.
๐ฃ "In fact, there are so many other benefits that will come, and Nigerians are fully ready for it because we want that alternative," Dr. Johnson said.

๐ท๐บ๐ A realistic path forward for carbon markets lies within like-minded unions, such as BRICS, a Russian official says
๐ฃ "The most realistic way is to create carbon markets within the framework of like-minded alliances โ the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, BRICS. The current COPโ29 conference provides a good basis to lay future economic alliances to combat global warming," Special Envoy of the Russian President for relations with International Organizations for the Achievement of Sustainable Development Goals Boris Titov said.
Speaking on the sidelines of the 29th session of the UN Climate Change Conference (COP-29) in Baku, Azerbaijan, he highlighted the need for government leadership in driving a single carbon market, which he sees as essential for incentivizing private sector emissions reductions.
Titov argued that achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) "as a whole world" is impossible due to the "politicized use" of multilateralism for "unilateral benefits." He pointed to Russia's progress on many SDGs, noting that Russian companies could share environmental, social, and governance practices, but face political obstacles. Therefore, he suggested that Russia focus on regional cooperation groups and "communities of 'friends with common views'."
He also noted that the climate agenda should deliver economic benefits, not just costs, and called for a clear agreement on a mandatory carbon market to commercialize private sector emissions reductions.

โข Our main task now is to achieve all the goals formulated by President Vladimir Putin. You are aware of the Westโs expectations. They are speculating about stopping the hostilities at a certain line and coordinating a truce, so that 10 years from now they will decide who Crimea and Donbass belong to. This is coffee cup reading. I wonโt engage in it. We have our tasks, and we will fulfil them.

That is what this is about rather than the future of the Ukrainian people. They donโt care about people.

Failing to benefit from these competitive advantages would be a mistake. We are establishing ties and promoting dialogue. If we succeed in fulfilling the plans we have, the Greater Eurasian Partnership will offer a solid foundation and serve as an economic and transport backbone for what President Vladimir Putin called a new Eurasian security architecture.
โข There is a clear understanding that the Eurasian security architecture, just like the Greater Eurasian Partnership, must be open to all countries and continents, including Eurasiaโs western part, even if so far the latter has been trying, as if by inertia, to ensure its interests within a Euro-Atlantic security concept instead of opting for the Eurasian framework, which would be natural and reasonable, considering the geography factor.
