This is the 11/9 and probably for many of you this day represents the day of the terroristic attack at the WTC, in 2001.
But there is another terroristic attack that happened on this day, 47 years ago.
The 11/9/1973 the democratically elected socialist president of Chile, Salvador Allende Gossens, was overthrown by a fascist coup supported by the CIA.
The US tried to not have him elected by heavily financing the opposition and with some of their usual interventism, but Allende was still elected in 1970 and almost for his whole term the CIA and the Empire (U.S.) sabotaged the economy of Chile, legally and illegally.
But this wasn't enough, so, they decided to install a literal fascist dictatorship on the country through a military coup.
This is the last speech that Allende gave to the workers of Chile.
After that, the Moneda (presidential residence, the equivalent of the White House) was bombed and occupied by the military and Allende was inside it as well (also a famous writer, Luis Sepulveda, that died of Covid-19 this year was with him during the bombing).
The writer Gabriel Garcia Marquez wrote this about Allende's last moments:
“He resisted for six hours, holding the machine gun that Fidel Castro had given him, it was the first weapon that Salvador Allende used in his life. The journalist Augusto Olivares, who remained by his side until the end, received numerous injuries and bled to death in a public clinic. At around four in the afternoon, Major General Javier Palacios managed to occupy the second floor, with his aide, Captain Gallardo and a group of officers. There, among the fake Louis XV armchairs, the china of Chinese dragons and the Rugenda paintings in the red room, Salvador Allende was waiting for them. He wore a miner's helmet, was in shirt sleeves, no tie, and bloodstained clothes. He was holding the machine gun. Allende knew General Palacios. A few days earlier he had told Augusto Olivares that this was a dangerous man, because he maintained close contact with the United States embassy. As he saw him appear from the steps, Allende shouted: "Traitor!" and he succeeded in wounding him in the hand. Allende died as a result of exchanging gusts with this patrol. Then, all the officers, almost following a caste rite, fired on his body. Eventually, an officer disfigured him with the butt of a rifle. There is a photograph: the photographer Juan Enrique Lira, of the newspaper El Mercurio, took it, the only one authorized to photograph the corpse. He was so disfigured that, to Mrs. Hortensia, his wife, they showed the body only when it was in the coffin. And they did not allow him to uncover his face. "
