β¨MIND and CONSCIOUSNESSβ¨
What is the difference?
βοΈAccording to Osho, the difference between the mind/intellect and consciousness/spirit is fundamental: the mind is a borrowed, mechanical tool focused on the past and material world, while consciousness is your innate, eternal, and silent being. Osho describes this distinction as moving from the periphery (ego) to the center (soul), or from darkness to light.
Here is a breakdown of the differences based on Oshoβs teachings:
1. THE MIND / INTELLECT (THE BRIDGE/INSTRUMENT)
Osho often refers to the mind and intellect as "garbage" or a "junkyard" because it is almost entirely borrowed from society, parents, and education.
Borrowed & Mechanical: Intellectuality is mechanical, a poor substitute for true intelligence. It is a collection of acquired knowledge.
Past-Oriented: The mind is "very ancient," made up of memories, conditioning, and past lives. It cannot comprehend the "now".
Analytical & Dividing: Intellect functions by dividing, analyzing, and reducing wholeness into parts.
Problem-Creating: Intellect makes everything a problem, functioning in the dark through logic and argument.
Function: It is a bridge between instinct (body) and intuition (spirit). It is meant to be used, but not lived in.
2. CONSCIOUSNESS / SPIRIT / INTUITION (THE BEING)
Consciousness, which Osho links with intuition, is your existential nature, something you are born with rather than taught.
Innate & Original: It is not borrowed; it is your own, fresh, and silent being.
Timeless ("Now"): Consciousness is always in the present moment. It is eternal, while the mind is constantly changing (a flux).
Intuitive & Wholistic: Intuition functions perfectly on the spiritual level, offering pure solutions, joy, and silence.
No-Mind State: Consciousness is found in a state of "no-mind"βutter silence, free from the disturbance of thought.
Universal: While individual intellects differ, the center of consciousness (soul) is universal and "in tune with Tao".
Meditation: Meditation is the process of deprogramming the mind and moving beyond it to your true self.
No-Mind: When thinking stops entirely, and one is just "alert and aware," consciousness shines.
"Intellect is only the periphery, the circumference, it is not the center of your being; the center of your being is intuition (consciousness). ββ¨β¨β¨

Problems simply disappear when we are balanced.
Problems are just symbolic indications - they are not the real disease.
