Today I was looking at images of real Valkyrie from Norse myths and it made me think of the African American woman that they casted for the role a while back. Is it wrong of me to say that it makes me sick to see how they lie with their Hollywood films and deliberately misrepresent Nordic mythology? It’s soooo annoying to see how they ruin European pagan myths by casting African Americans or other non-Europeans to play the role of a major character from European mythology. It’s sick what these people are doing, and then they have the nerve to complain about the Europeans

That’s the right description of Valkyrie, not an African American woman. These film producers are you know who’s puppets, and they are robbing European heritage in broad daylight. The African American actors should be ashamed to accept the role of a major character from European heritage. They have no pride, and no respect for their own African heritage. They should be playing the role of characters from African mythology. Leave the European myths alone. I’m embarrassed for them. This Valkyrie character is just one example out of many.

Lovely thread that mentions something I came across years ago but there is not a lot of source material available in English on it, the keeping of a snake in the home to be honored as a tutelary spirit. I had read that they were honored with offerings including a bowl of milk, so the image of the girl handing a bowl of milk to the snake caught my eye. This thread mentions the Belorussians, but I had read the practice was more widespread among Northern Europeans.

Remember, snakes keep down the rodent population. Rodents spread disease and ruin your food stores. So there’s a practical reason they would be viewed as suspicious for the wealth and prosperity of your family lines.

But, cats a cuter and perform the same role 😛

"Bragi and Idun" and "Freya obtains Brisingamen", by Alexander Zick (German), born 1845. His black and white reproductions published in Wagner's Germanische Göttersagen are all that remain of his beautiful depictions of Old Norse gods and goddesses.
