Dicksee was a British painter born in 1862. He was best known for his sensitive depictions of animals including dogs, lions and tigers. Dicksee’s family was well-ingrained into the art world; his father was an artist and his nephew, Sir Frank Dicksee, was the president of the Royal Academy in London from 1924–1928. Herbert went on to study at the Slade School of Art in London on a scholarship, and his first painting was exhibited in 1881. Many of Dicksee’s most famous works were transcribed into prints and etchings published by Klackner of London. He died on February 20, 1942 in Hampstead, England.

This was a comment in response to a post on X of someone trying to play off the fact that they could not name even one of their great grandparents.

It is a stereotypically NPC comment by an irrelevant NPC account carrying a heavy weight of cynicism. Apparently in a hundred years "nothing will matter", so who cares about discovering who your ancestors were, the lives they lived, and deriving a sense of self from them?

Well, it clearly does matter because we have a vested interest in our ancestors, their lives, their names, their cultures and their beliefs. Anyone who has branched out their family tree will understand the sense of wholeness you feel in your heart knowing who your real ancestors were.

It also matters because we derive a lot of our values from the past. Our good ancestors had a strong character with strong moral values. Being a good man and being a good woman were of paramount importance to the functioning environment and culture of our ancestors. Since we today strive to be like our ancestors, that means consciously endorsing traditional values and actively participating in their flourishment for the benefit of ourselves, our families, friends, and loved ones.

It does matter. Because in a hundred years time we will be gone, but our descendants will be here. We can set a precedent of virtue, learning, and values that they can look back on just as we do with our ancestors, and derive that core sense of truth and decency that creates true strength, power, and upwards evolution on a cultural and spiritual level.
