A lot of people give 3-6 year olds entirely too much unstructured time. When animals play their play is always in the form of behaviors that will benefit them as adults.
Some unstructured time is necessary to allow them to make choices but overwhelmingly I believe in an adult style program that varies activities so that their lives arenβt monotonous but so that their time is spent mostly acquiring skills and knowledge that will benefit them.
How many prodigies are stifled by an unhealthy amount of time with video games, TV, or other non-productive activities.
Some think this is extreme because they compare it to work as adults but what makes working as an adult miserable is the monotonous nature of most work. People sitting, doing the same task over and over again. This is not the same as a constantly productive but varied and active childhood.
It is fun, fulfilling, and challenging.

It is better to dwell in the wilderness, than with a contentious and an angry woman.

Proverbs 2:19
Took my son out riding; taught him the more advanced desert riding skills. Also took a friend on his KLR650 - he didn't listen to me when I said it was the wrong bike to be taking out into the desert by a new rider.
Also, camping cornbread.
