Nostalgia enjoyers always leave the extreme racism part out of the time periods they enjoy romanticizing. Funny enough it's that very same extreme racism that made those time periods so enjoyable. Behind every Norman Rockwell painting there's a big guy way off canvas with a weapon beating back the endless foreign hordes hell bent on defiling all things cozy and wholesome

Long ago before fast food and chain restaurants there were, for the most part, pretty much only 2 kinds of restaurants. Little family owned places where the family worked there and it was how they made a living, like local diners and stuff and then bigger fancier places were usually owned by mobsters or wealthy business guys, like a fat mob boss guy would name it after his wife and him and his mob buddies would use it as a club house and a great way to launder money. The point was really to look cool and impress people. Making a fortune off a restaurant was never the point and this time period gave us all the dishes we still make in restaurants today.
