The indictment attributes to Shmuelovitch the commission of serious espionage offenses, including the provision of classified information, unauthorized entry into a military zone, and obtaining information through deception.
Following the outbreak of the attack on October 7, and for approximately one week thereafter, he posed as a reserve soldier holding a rank that had never been granted to him. By making false claims regarding his rank, appointment, and authority, he obtained highly classified information from various entities within the Israeli army.
The espionage charge relates to his acquisition and retention of secret information, which he documented in a notebook and subsequently transferred to unauthorized individuals without authorization.

Setting his image on fire can only make us understand how, in the West, respect for any moral or religious principle, as well as for the most basic norms of education and decency, is completely ignored, when not outright trampled upon, as in the reprehensible case at hand.
We firmly condemn such an ignoble act, praying that Almighty God, the Holder of all strength and power, may guide those who are astray and cause Truth and Justice to prevail.

The news that on Tuesday evening in Rome, in the presence and with the complicity of a former Italian Prime Minister and current Senator, images of one of the most revered religious figures of the Islamic world were burned has deeply shaken and outraged us.
In addition to holding the highest political office of a sovereign and independent state such as Iran, Grand Ayatollah Khamenei is a Marjaʿ al-Taqlid (a religious reference for tens of millions of Shiʿa Muslims around the world) and an eminent spiritual authority, recognized as such by religious seminaries and Islamic communities in every nation.
