Dozens of people are feared dead and around 100 others seriously injured after a large fire broke out in a bar in the Swiss ski resort of Crans-Montana.

The blaze started at around 1.30am on Thursday, January 1, in the packed bar “Le Constellation” in southern Switzerland, according to Valais cantonal police. Authorities say it’s too early to determine the cause of the fire but have ruled out an attack.

“At the time of writing, all the injured have been treated,” Frédéric Gisler, police commander for canton Valais, told a press conference at 10am on Thursday. The injured were taken to hospitals in Sion, Lausanne, Geneva and Zurich. Gisler said the victims are likely to be of various nationalities.
