There was never a time when every major political and media institution rolled out campaigns celebrating the wonder of left-handed people, kids in schools weren't encouraged to think they'd ''find themselves'' by writing with their left hand and it was never encouraged as a heroic act of liberation.

I am writing a response while trying to not to be either long-winded or a condescending blue-stater (this is hard because I am a long-winded condescending blue stater). I deeply respect Don. Suffice to say that most of the conflict might be a matter of language. However, watching most of this video, my objection can be boiled out to one specific thing that Don said here:
"And even THERE (California), there were small advances (victories) you could make... it's NOT WORTH IT in my opinion, the cost is prohibitive for getting them..."

This is a fascinating sentence because it seems to run contrary to Don's other points. Here Don implies that you can get a "victory" or "win" and have it still NOT be worthwhile. How can this be? To use language that I know Don is familiar with, what we are seeing is the difference between "winning" in a tactical sense, and "winning" in a strategic sense. Tactics is the battle, strategy is the war. Just as a general can win all the battles but still lose the war (this happens A LOT in history), we understand that just because something is a tactical win doesn't mean that it contributes to the broader cause of total victory. Without an effective strategy that incorporates the tactical victories and uses them to materially advance the cause, these "tactical victories" amount to little more than what we history nerds call "Pyrrhic Victories" which in turn is just a nicer way of saying "strategic defeats". Strategic defeats are bad whether you get their through tactical loses or tactical victories. Regardless of whether you are courageous or not. In fact, Pyrrhic Victories are the surest way to make sure you kill the virtue courage in your own society. Whether it is Gallipolli or the wars of King Pyrrhus, the result of commanding all your brave young men to charge machine gun nests to win a battle for no greater strategic vision is a sure way to kill the spirit of valor in your own nation (as happened in both examples). The brave fighters all perish while the losers get to sit back and say "I told you so". This is how nations die.

The problem on the right-wing currently is that there is no strategic vision. You know it, I know it. This is the issue that we are need to solve above all else. Don is correct when he says that we can win tactically. Don is right when he says that tactical victories are good. And most of the time these tactical "victories" just buy us time. But as I asked in the original video (and I don't think I've gotten a good answer), "time for what?". What is the larger strategy? What is our vision? In so far as standing up and saying something, or exposing yourself to being "cancelled" goes to show you are not a "coward", I have done that. I have been Doxxed. I use my face. I am taking a risk, more than I probably should. And when I poke my head above the parapet, what do I see? I see a line of machine guns nests bearing down. I see a country that effectively IS California, or that will be in all the ways that matter in very short order. I see victories, but only victories with prohibitive strategic cost. Insofar as the military analogy holds, I am not the soldier avoiding exposure to enemy fire, I am more the Captain who has SEEN enemy fire and is questioning whether its worth it to spend the lives of people under him to take a hill, understanding that there is NO LARGER PLAN of what to do when victory is achieved. I am all for fighting, I will continue to fight. But I am not going to fight, much less tell others to fight, at a time and place of my enemy's choosing just to prove a point, or to make a cathartic demonstration.

Maybe this just means different roles for different people, but the job of most right-wing people in my opinion should be to craft a spiritual and strategic vision. Something that can use victories, rather than a machine for generating victories to no larger end. Perhaps Don agrees? Again The our disagreement sounds linguistic, but that's all I have to say. I spent about an hour today scaling and gutting sardines until in the end I had a whole row of them lined up ready to grill.
