Mempool developer Mononaut said Bitcoin’s mining difficulty fell 11.16% to 125.86 T, marking the largest single downward adjustment since China’s mining crackdown in July 2021 and the 10th-biggest drop in Bitcoin’s history. The decline was mainly caused by weather-related mining curtailments in late January, while implied hashrate data suggests a rebound later in the current difficulty adjustment period.

SlowMist uncovered a supply-chain attack in OpenClaw’s ClawHub plugin marketplace, where weak moderation let many malicious skills slip through and propagate harmful code. Koi Security reviewed 2,857 skills and flagged 341 as malicious. SlowMist examined over 400 IOCs, exposing coordinated, large-scale attacks aimed at a small set of fixed domains and IPs, using a two-stage loader that combines initial obfuscation with dynamic payload downloads. One example, the “X (Twitter) Trends” skill, conceals a Base64-encoded backdoor that fetches and runs malware to steal passwords, harvest files, and exfiltrate data to a C2 server.

Discord — passport-only starting in March
The Discord platform is introducing mandatory age verification by documents for all users. Without verification, access will be restricted—you won’t be able to join 18+ servers, message strangers in DMs, and almost all “sensitive” content will be hidden behind filters.
Age verification will require a passport and a facial video scan—while the company promises not to store the data after verification.

Ethereum Foundation member ladislaus.eth explained that Ethereum is planning a major architectural change, shifting block validation from re-executing all transactions to verifying zero-knowledge proofs. As part of the L1-zkEVM roadmap for 2026, EIP-8025 (Optional Execution Proofs) would let validators, known as zkAttesters, validate blocks by checking cryptographic proofs rather than running a full execution client. The first L1-zkEVM workshop is set for February 11, 2026.

Moonwell was hacked for $1.78M due to code generated by Claude Opus 4.6
The DeFi protocol Moonwell lost about $1.78M due to an error in a smart contract. According to auditor pashov, the vulnerable code was generated by the Claude Opus 4.6 model.
The cause was a bug in the oracle formula: the price of cbETH was displayed as $1.12 instead of the actual ~$2200. This allowed the attacker to carry out the exploit.
In the project’s repository, the commits are marked as co-authored with Claude — the incident is already being called one of the first hacks linked to vibe coding in Solidity.
