They are no longer individual

Alan: ..the military had always been used on the people at home. They had the Drapers Riots in the 1700s, and in the 1800s ..and they turned the British military on the people and had mass shootings in the streets. So, Britain was well used to what a uniform meant, you know. See, uniform means one form. When they put on a uniform, they are no longer an individual, they’re a robot who is part of the whole. Kind of like Legion, we are many, but we are one, you know.

Jackie: ..I think about the dog tags.  .. a dog tag is a tag you hang around a dog’s neck.

👉 see, the big thing is individualism.

The bulk of the population are easy to predict, but it’s the individuals in society that give them problems because they’re unpredictable. They want everyone in a totalitarian system to be predictable, so they have to basically eliminate that possibility that you as an individual can do any act or even say anything which might cause upsets or ripple effects.
