Donald Trump said on Sunday that Iran’s political leadership have agreed to talks, a day after the US and Israel began to target the country’s military and political infrastructure, killing the supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and several top officials.

“They want to talk, and I have agreed to talk, so I will be talking to them,” Trump told a reporter for the Atlantic magazine on Sunday. “They should have done it sooner. They should have given what was very practical and easy to do sooner. They waited too long.”

The comments were some of the first from the president since he announced on Truth Social in the early morning hours on Saturday that the US had begun “major combat operations in Iran”. …

⛽ Fuel Impact Update – Global Situation vs NZ Reality

The situation around the Strait of Hormuz is escalating.

200 plus ships REPORTED to be at either both ends of the Straight.

• Tanker traffic through the main shipping lanes has largely halted or slowed sharply according to shipping data.
• Some vessels have been attacked or damaged near the strait.
• Major shipping companies have paused voyages through the area.

That matters because the Strait of Hormuz carries roughly 20% of the world’s oil supply.

Even without a formally recognised global closure, shipping behaviour has already changed - ships are waiting, diverting, or being told to hold position.

Oil prices are reacting and markets are warning that continued disruption could tighten supply globally.

For New Zealand:
We now rely entirely on imported refined fuel and long supply chains through Asia. Any sustained disruption to global shipping routes can affect prices here first and supply later if it drags on.

Current policy requires fuel importers to hold minimum stock equivalent to about:
• 28 days petrol
• 24 days jet fuel
• 21 days diesel

But those are obligations, not confirmation of how much fuel is actually in the system at this moment.

This so-called "war" on Iran is a straight-up illegal mess, dragged into by Israel's push and signed off by Trump acting like he's king. It kicked off on 28 February 2026 - just a couple of days ago - with US and Israeli planes hammering Iranian cities, military targets, and government buildings. Trump bragged about "major combat operations" to smash their nuclear stuff and missiles. Netanyahu's right there cheering it on, calling for Iranians to topple their own government… but wasn’t the Iranian nuclear programme “obliterated?”

“They killed Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in the strikes. Trump said it first on Truth Social, then Iranian state media supposedly confirmed it, along with his daughter, grandson, and son-in-law getting wiped out too. Both sides are throwing claims around like confetti - Israel and the US say it's done, but in this fog of war, who knows what's real until the dust settles and the truth crawls out? One thing's for sure: the body count's climbing fast. Iranian reports say over 200 dead already, including kids - more than 100 little ones allegedly blown up in a girls' school in Minab that got hit near a naval base. The attackers are mumbling about "looking into it," but that doesn't bring anyone back....”

mb: For those who are open to it, this man’s alanysis of what is happening backs up the idea some of us have that there is a rational plan behind events to bring positive change to the Middle East.
