Three decades ago, America had a choice: to bring post-Soviet Russia into the First World or drive her into the Third World. Imagine if the Russian resource superpower entered the EU 30 years ago. With European technology and capital + Russian resources, all Eurasia would have become enormously prosperous. Imagine if the Russian military superpower had been brought into NATO. China, Islam, & the global south would have been denied Russian patronage for decades while Europe would have grown invincible.

Why is the Right a failure?
For a long time I've been saying that, paradoxically, the "Tall Poppy Syndrome" (the "Jante Law" in Scandinavia) describes the Right better than the Left.
In our recent conversation, Sam Dickson said it more concisely:
The Left is egalitarian in theory but elitist in practice; the Right is elitist in theory but egalitarian in practice.
The Right has been dysfunctional because it has welcomed any and all who have professed to be opposed to mass immigration, no matter how crazy they are.
When the Left was on the rise, it practiced elitism. Now, however, the Left has started practicing egalitarianism, which has brought it to a downward trajectory.
I'd say that looks like an opening for a more elitist Right.
