Guys, there's an update to our Coub.com Communities and content publishing rules.

Let's face it — we always had a bit of a love-hate relationship with #NSFW coubs. With only a fraction of coubers appreciating 18+ content, you won't believe how many awkward moments we had over the years with NFSW coubs ending up in the wrong Communities and upsetting other viewers.

As our global community proliferates and becomes more diverse, we'd like to make sure everyone may have fun and enjoy Coub.com safely without any unpleasant surprises and questionable imagery. As of today, we decided to discontinue the NSFW Community at Coub and began removing the related content. No action is required on behalf of the users who used to upload NSFW content. These coubs will be available via direct URL until Monday, June 27th, if you'd like to download any of them!

However, Coub.com will not accept such content from now on. Revised and detailed community rules are coming soon; stay tuned.

We've received dozens of questions about NSFW: why it was banned, how we arrived at this decision, and what Coub.com would be like without this community. Press F and all that.

NSFW was never meant to be a full-fledged "Community" at Coub. It originated as a by-product of content filtering and was a way to restrict access to such content. Ultimately, we decided that to secure Coub's further sustainable development and growth, we need to abandon such content.

All users whose NSFW coubs were banned will soon receive emails allowing them to appeal the removal of specific coubs. Feel free to contact our Support team with any questions: [email protected]. (But please, only if you are sure your coub was marked as "NSFW" in error!)

Recently, we launched a feature that tags some coubs as ‘Age-restricted content’. There have been many questions, so let’s clear things out:

❓ What’s ‘Age-restricted content’?
‘Age-restricted’ coubs do not violate our community rules; yet some of our users may find them upsetting.

We’ve decided to put an extra layer of protection for coubers and gave our registered users an option: to view this type of content on their feeds or to hide it.

❓ How does Coub know which coubs need to be restricted?
Coub team reviews all published content and sorts out coubs that need to be marked as ‘age-restricted’.

❓ Who can view ‘Age-restricted content’?
Only logged in users who enabled the ‘age-restricted content’ can see it on their feeds.

❓ Is it like Unhot coub?
No, Unhot coubs don’t appear in search and generally can be accessed only by followers or users if they visit a channel. ‘Age-restricted content’ can be viewed by all logged in users who disabled the content restriction.

❓ Does this mean NSFW are coming back?
No, ‘age-restricted content’ is different to NSFW. We just thought that there are pieces of content that may be not to everyone’s liking.

❓Am I going to be penalized for creating such content?
No, because it doesn’t violate our community rules.

❓ Is this feature already in place?
Yes, we’ve added an option to hide the ‘age-restricted content’ on our website, and it will soon be introduced to the app too.
