On 27 November, Maxim Kozlov, #Russian Consul General in Kolkata, Ekaterina Tyurina, Vice-Consul and Gautam Ghosh, Programme Officer at Gorky Sadan, along with citizens of #Kolkata gathered to lay flowers to the memorial plaque to Gerasim #Lebedev (1749 - 1817), the first Russian #Indologist, pioneer of #Bengali drama, #translator, #musician and founder of the first first modern European-style national drama #theatre.
This year marks his 225th birth anniversary and the 229th anniversary of the #foundation of the very theater where Gerasim Lebedev created on his own the musical accompaniment, combining Indian singing and European music, Indian songs and dances, as well as the poems of the popular Bengali poet Bharat Chandra Ray.
