The bill passed without any amendments through a voice vote, as opposition leaders abstained from participation due to the Manipur issue. Pending approval from the President of India, this bill, grants the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government greater oversight over tech companies' data handling practices, is on track to become law, amid concerns that the law will be used to increase surveillance.
