A common criticism of IQ is that the Flynn effect shows IQ test scores significantly increase over time. Nijenhuis and Flier (2013) examine the relationship between general intelligence and the Flynn effect. They find that the Flynn effect is generally unrelated to general intelligence, because IQ test scores reflect general intelligence less now than they did in the past.

Interesting. Hutcherson et al. (2021) asked a group of social scientists and a group of average Americans to make predictions about the societal consequences of the pandemic and how large these consequences would be. They find that social scientists were just as accurate in their predictions as average people, and less accurate when controlling for personal-confidence. In a world where the “expert consensus” is taken at face value, these “experts” seem to be notoriously unreliable.

On the accuracy, media representation, and public perception of psychological scientists’ judgments of societal change
At the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, psychological scientists frequently made on-the-record predictions in public media about how individuals and society would change. Such predictions were often made outside these scientists’ areas of expertise, with justifications…

New Case study in Chicago found that when facing similar civilians in comparable places and times, Black and Hispanic, and female officers engage in much less enforcement activity & violence than their white and male counterparts.
Black officers made far fewer stops (29%) , arrests (21%) and used force less often than white officers (32%) facing common circumstances, when compared to average white officer behavior respectively.
Therefore, diversity can have a significantly negative impact in policing.

Plus the whole letter is just a red herring. It’s essentially saying that since other experts believe that Trump should be convicted, senators should view that as a foregone conclusion for Trump’s conviction. And you should believe that the experts are acting impartially as well! This is why no one takes academia seriously anymore.

Mayda et al. (2016) examine whether immigration is better for Republican or Democrat politicians. They find, to the surprise of no one, that more immigration=more Democrats. It only translates to more Republican votes when the size of migration is so large that it’s a salient issue.

Keep in mind that the data set is from 1994-2012, when Republicans didn’t focus on immigration much. So it’s not likely that the immigrants are Democrats because of immigration restrictions.
This is the study by the way. Not sure how valid it is but it’s interesting if true

Doran et al. (2016) examines the American H-1B visa program, which allows high-skilled foreign tech workers to work in the U.S. for a limited amount of time at top tech firms. They find that the effects of the visas are insignificant on patent growth and employment growth, and that they reduce employee wage growth and decreases the amount of training companies are willing to offer to prospective employees. Essentially, the visa has insignificant or negative effects on high-skilled employees.
