Nutkin's flyering tips:
Before you go out, try packeting your flyers into equal manageable batches to keep a count. You only need to count out the first set, then repeat for the same weight or thickness of wad. Putting them into plastic sleeves makes them easier to handle while you're out. Then at the door - double-rolling them usually gets them through even the most stubborn letterboxes!

Passing British flags hanging with national pride, Nutkin has been busy extending his range deeper into East Yorkshire! Scampering past beautifully maintained public blooms, bicycles parked unlocked and trays of tomato plants offered freely to neighbours - 300 homes in North Cave received Patriotic Alternative's simple message: Love Your Country!

Britain has its own subspecies of red squirrel (left). Known as Sciurus vulgaris leucourus, it was first described by Scottish-born surgeon and science writer Robert Kerr in 1792. It is considered uniquely different based on a blanching (whitening) of the tail during the summer months. The continental European relative of our red, Sciurus vulgaris vulgaris, has a much darker tail. Red squirrels have been in Britain for around 10,000 years, since the last ice age.

Nutkin the red squirrel seen on England Road, Bilton and at 400 addresses in the village! Noticeable how many homes proudly displayed 'England Road' below their street number along there. Maybe it's because they love their country?

The Native v the Invader - Part 1.
Red squirrels have lived in the British Isles since the glaciers of the last ice age retreated around 10,000 years ago. After Britain became detached from continental Europe due to sea level rise, land-bound species such as squirrels lived and developed in symbiosis with their environment to reach a sustainable population limited by available habitat and resources.
Grey squirrels, however, are an invasive non-native species introduced from the USA between 1876-1929 by the Victorians. Within 150 years the grey squirrel has become widespread in England and Wales, central Scotland and the eastern half of Ireland and is extremely damaging to its new environment. There are now 2.7 million greys in Britain and only about 287,000 red squirrels remaining, a ratio of approximately 10:1 – and the non-natives are still spreading.

The flags were flying in Preston, East Yorkshire as 400 homes received Patriotic Alternative flyers. One homeowner had a charming red squirrel plaque with their house number, so probably didn’t need us to explain our native squirrel’s plight. We hope more people in Preston now realise there’s a community group representing the interests of the indigenous people as well.
