P/E Ratio in a Nutshell✔️

The price-to-earnings ratio, or P/E ratio is the ratio of a company’s share price to the company’s earnings per share. It helps compare the price of a company’s stock to the earnings the company generates.📊

While the market price of a stock tells you how much people are willing to pay to own the shares, the P/E ratio tells you whether the price accurately reflects the company’s earnings potential, or it’s value over time.💯

➡️For example. Let’s say a company’s stock is trading at $100 per share, and the company generates $5 per share in annual earnings, the P/E ratio of the company’s stock would be 20 (100 / 5). This means that given the company’s current earnings, it would take 20 years of accumulated earnings to equal the cost of the investment.

☝️While the P/E ratio is a good tool to use when making investment decisions, it’s wise to note that it should still be used in conjunction with other company data.

The 52-week range is a historical measure of the highest and lowest prices that a stock has traded for in the past 52 weeks (a year).

The 52-week range is calculated by taking the highest price that a stock has traded for in the past 52 weeks and subtracting the lowest price. For instance, if a stock has traded for a high of $150 and a low of $100 in the past 52 weeks, its 52-week range would be 50.📊

The 52-week range can be a useful tool to identify stocks that are trading at a relatively high or low price. Stocks that are trading near their 52-week highs may be considered to be overvalued, while stocks that are trading near their 52-week lows may be considered to be undervalued.☝️

Basis points are commonly used to define interest rates, quote price changes in the stock market, and outline the cost of ETFs and mutual funds. So, for example, if interest rates rose from 2.00% to 2.50%, it would be said that rates rose 50 basis points.🏓

This universal measure serves to help traders and analysts clarify the change between two percentages avoiding confusion – so instead of saying a 10% increase on a 10% rate, it can be described as a 1000 bps change.☝️
