Nvidia has announced plans to pour hundreds of millions of dollars into building Israel’s most powerful supercomputer, capable of performing eight quintillion (million trillion) calculations per second.
Nvidia senior VP Gilad Shainer insisted Israel-1, as the system will be named, will be the "most important technology in our lifetime" because "generative AI is going everywhere nowadays.”
The system was developed by Mellanox, which Nvidia outbid Intel to take over in 2019 for $7 billion, and is set to be partly operational by the end of this year.
