The Sixteen Thirty Fund, a prominent dark money organization within the Arabella Advisors network, recently launched an ambitious but secretive effort to recruit social media influencers for Democratic messaging. The program, called "Chorus," offered content creators between $250 and $8,000 monthly to promote progressive talking points—with one major catch: they couldn't tell anyone they were being paid.

According to contracts reviewed by Wired, the terms were remarkably restrictive. Influencers were prohibited from disclosing their affiliation with either Chorus or the Sixteen Thirty Fund. They couldn't reveal "the identity of any Funder" or even acknowledge they were receiving payment. The contracts also required all political meetings to be arranged through Chorus, mandated attendance at daily messaging check-ins and advocacy trainings, and allowed Chorus to demand removal of content at any time.

Several high-profile progressive influencers were approached, including Olivia Julianna, who spoke at the 2024 Democratic National Convention, and content creators with millions of followers like Adesso Laurenzo and Aaron Parnas. Many expressed concerns about the controlling nature of the arrangement in private group chats, with some floating the idea of requesting changes. However, most ultimately signed on after being given just two days to decide and being barred from consulting lawyers about modifications.
