Thick air hangs over, humid blanket that settled deep into the bones, pressing against the skin like a secret too close to bear. Sun bleeds stretched the sky in violent wash of tangerine speck in orange yonder, bruised plum, heat and slow-burning fever. Moon roses, bone-white silver in the middle of vast black night, casted a lunelight that made flesh; something so tender that made our worn-out skins begin to be born again.

To chase, to believe. Fleeting warmth that clung into the edges of the day, clung on the tip of our tongue like secret barely half-remembered, and body slick with the day's last sweat. The August heat settles in our lungs as it always does, a late night bonfires, skinny dipping in the ocean, surfing past the bigger waves, grilling out by the pool, holy post sunburn nap with smell of coconut sunscreen and aloe. Somewhere between dusty highways, pit stops and pictures, found ourselves at a nowhere-town bar, tired, sunburned, laughing together, looking for one more memory before the day ended. It was nothing more than the scent of night-blooming jasmine and echo of laughter, but for a moment, in the heat of a forgotten summer, it's everything.
