According to new data, the epicenter is now located 17 km west of Catia La Mar (Vargas state), at coordinates 10.622°N 67.194°W, with a depth of 10.0 km.

However, the USGS warns that the actual uncertainty is likely greater than the 6 km calculated, because the initial seismic waves were obscured by a strong 7.2 magnitude earthquake that occurred only 30-39 seconds earlier.
