🇻🇪🇮🇹 Chavista regime releases two Italians

The Chavista regime has released two Italian citizens, Alberto Trentini and Mario Burlò, announced on Monday by the Prime Minister of the European country, Giorgia Meloni.
Today, January 12th 2026, Pope Leo XIV received Maria Corina Machado in the Vatican, where they talked about the issue of political prisoners, still incarcerated by chavista interim administración.

An interesting detail: In the list of attendees, MCM is referred to only as "Ms." instead of "Nobel Laureate," implying that MCM herself is omitting the reference to herself as a "Nobel Laureate" to avoid further estrangement from Donald Trump, with whom she said she would share and give her Nobel Prize this week during her visit to the White House.
Trump said on Monday that he is "looking forward" to meeting with María Corina Machado, who, according to the president, would be arriving at the White House on Tuesday or Wednesday.

On the other hand, he referred to Delcy Rodríguez as "very kind".

"Venezuela is really working. Well, we're working very well with the leadership and we'll see how everything works (...) At some point I'll meet with her (Delcy). She's been very kind. She asked us: 'Can we accept 50 million barrels of oil?'. And I said yes. It's $4.2 billion. And they're already on their way to the United States."

While mentioning his commitment to the Acting President, Delcy Rodríguez, he revealed that he is going through the most difficult moments trying to "avoid a bloodshed among Venezuelans and the division of the FANB".

"Intrigue does not help peace today; sectarianism does not help peace today; and sterile polarization does not help peace," he stated.
