The Government of the Argentine Republic values the resolve and determination shown by the President of the United States and his administration in the recent actions taken in Venezuela that led to the capture of dictator Nicolás Maduro, leader of the Cartel of the Suns, declared a terrorist organization by the Argentine Government in 2025, the same year it also declared the Tren de Aragua terrorist organization.

Since President Javier Milei took office, Argentina has been clear and consistent in its position regarding this situation. We have unequivocally denounced the lack of freedoms and the serious human rights violations, and we have actively contributed, with determination and responsibility, to international efforts aimed at the return of democracy in Venezuela.”

The Argentine Republic requests that the authorities responsible for managing the transition in Venezuela contribute to the immediate release of Argentine citizen Nahuel Gallo, and that his prompt and safe return to our country be guaranteed.

▶️An emergency virtual CELAC summit convened by Colombian President Gustavo Petro, with the support of Brazilian President Lula da Silva and Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, ended without a joint declaration after Argentina and several other countries rejected condemning the U.S. operation against Nicolás Maduro.

▶️Alongside Argentina, the countries opposing the statement were Paraguay, Peru, Bolivia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Panama, the Dominican Republic, and Trinidad and Tobago. Argentina played a key role in coordinating this blocking minority. Foreign Minister Pablo Quirno led the strategy, signaling a clear break with the approach promoted by Petro and backed by governments aligned with the Bolivarian axis, including Cuba, Nicaragua, and Honduras.

▶️During the summit, the foreign ministers of Cuba, Nicaragua, and Uruguay, along with representatives from Colombia and the Venezuelan government, delivered strongly critical speeches against the United States.
