🇻🇪📞🇺🇸 — Reuters: Maduro offers to engage in direct talks with Trump envoy Grenell

➡️ Venezuelan Leader Nicolas Maduro offered to engage in direct talks with the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump days after the first U.S. strike on a boat from the South American country that Trump says was carrying drug traffickers.

➡️ In a letter to Trump that was viewed by Reuters, Maduro rejected U.S. claims that Venezuela played a big role in drug trafficking, saying that "just 5% of drugs produced in Colombia are shipped through Venezuela" - of which he claimed 70% were neutralized and destroyed by Venezuelan authorities.

"President, I hope that together we can defeat the falsehoods that have sullied our relationship, which must be historic and peaceful," Maduro wrote in the letter. "These and other issues will always be open for a direct and frank conversation with your special envoy (Richard Grenell) to overcome media noise and fake news."

⚠️🇬🇧🇻🇪 Alejandro Betancourt, "bolichico" linked to corruption scheme, released on bail

Venezuelan businessman Alejandro Betancourt López, known as one of the "bolichicos," was released on bail. He was arrested on Thursday, September 18, in London, United Kingdom, at the request of the Central Court of Instruction No. 5 of the National Court of Spain.

"Leopoldo Alejandro Betancourt López, known as the 'BOLICHICO,' was arrested in London by order of a Spanish court and released on bail. His fortune was amassed at a very young age through Derwick Associates, securing 12 power plant contracts in less than 14 months, despite having no background in civil works," reported the NGO Transparencia Venezuela on its official account on the social network X.

The NGO detailed that the impunity of the "bolichico" Betancourt López "lasted for years: Case in Venezuela closed in 2015 due to 'lack of evidence,' and lawsuits in the U.S. dismissed on technicalities. The irony is complete: He was not charged in Venezuela and in April 2024 obtained an 'open letter' from PDVSA to market crude oil. Now, Spain arrests him over luxury properties."

🇻🇦🇻🇪 Clippve asks Pope Leo XIV to intercede for political prisoners in Venezuela

The Committee for the Liberation of Political Prisoners in Venezuela (Clippve) formally requested Pope Leo XIV to intervene with Nicolás Maduro's government to demand the release of about a thousand detainees considered political prisoners.

Andreína Baduel, a Clippve activist, stated that this action is part of a broader campaign called "Canonization without political prisoners," which seeks international support, including from the Italian government, a country that has already managed the release of two Italo-Venezuelan citizens and continues efforts for other detainees.
