🇨🇴 Petro insists that the Cartel of the Suns does not exist in Colombia

The president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, stated this Wednesday that in his country's judicial investigations into drug trafficking, "there is no Cartel of the Suns," after the Senate approved on Tuesday night a motion declaring that group a transnational criminal organization linked to Nicolás Maduro's Venezuelan regime.

"In our judicial investigations into drug trafficking, there is no 'Cartel of the Suns,'" Petro said on his X account, where he assured that the cocaine arriving in Venezuela through the Apure state comes from central Colombia.

The Colombian head of state added that in Catatumbo, a border region with Venezuela, "cocaine is controlled by armed groups that have strengthened," and highlighted that there are already more than five thousand hectares of coca crops in voluntary eradication phase and a peace process underway with FARC dissidents, with agreed concentration zones.

According to initial reports, the attack was allegedly carried out by FARC dissidents.
The Army confirmed that both civilians and uniformed personnel are out of danger and that the soldiers managed to repel the aggression.

Due to the public order situation, the mayor of the municipality announced that in the next few minutes administrative measures will be issued, including a curfew and restrictions on motorcycle passengers.

The dispute in that area of northeastern Antioquia continues over control of income derived from illegal mining and coca crops.
