In the past year, the Trump administration has bombed 8 countries: Palestine, Syria, Yemen, Iraq, Iran, Somalia, Nigeria, and culminating this week in Venezuela. Trump claims to put America-first and love peace, meanwhile, he siphons millions of tax payer dollars to provoke wars rather than investing in the needs of the people domestically. We see through this smokescreen. Wars only advance the ruling class and their profit motives, at the expense of the working class domestically and abroad.
We demand a say in where public money is invested. The bare minimum is that it does not go to corporations who profit off of war. In Virginia, the Virginia Retirement System invests $300 million in 14 of these companies. We reject that our taxes and pensions are being used to increase their bottom line.

In times of increasing militarism and fascism, we have a responsibility to limit the flow of arms used to perpetuate endless war and violence here and abroad. Yesterday, federal agents murdered Alex Pretti in Minneapolis, less than two weeks after the murder of Renee Good, and a day after the first general strike in the US in 80 years. The tactics used by ICE to repress and execute those who dare to resist fascist mirrors the scenes of IOF murders and raids in Palestine. This is by design. Imperialism and zionism learn from each other to protect the ruling class and criminalize those who stand for justice and against oppression.
This death machine must end. The supply chain to ICE and IOF must be broken. Virginia has a responsibility to stand against these murderous forces in action, by divesting public funds invested in the corporations who provide their weapons. On January 23rd, Minneapolis observed the first general strike in the United States in 80 years, catalyzed by weeks of ICE terror culminating in the murder of community member Renee Good. Grassroots organizing and labor movements have a long history of working together to advance liberation struggles. This history is a testament to the necessity of well-organized labor and community building in order to confront ever expanding militarism and fascism both inside the U.S. and exported across the world.
From the Twin Cities to Virginia, our labor is our leverage against the war machine. As Israel continues to drop bombs on Gaza, an arms embargo is undeniably the only way to ensure a permanent ceasefire. The workers of Virginia must have a voice in where their retirement funds are invested.
