A "predatory" 'refugee' who sexually assaulted two women has been sentenced to four years in jail.

Syrian Muhammad Sheikhi, 23, targeted his victims in Falkirk during the early hours of 30 November 2025.

Sheikhi had been staying at the Scottish town's Hotel Cladhan at the time of his attacks.

Protests erupted at the time and authorities accused members of the public of spreading 'misinformation'.

He preyed on the first woman at a railway bridge on Kerse Lane, where he hugged her, repeatedly kissed her on the face and mouth, and put his hands under her skirt.

Sheikhi then sexually assaulted a second woman in Kerse Lane and the nearby Bellsmeadow skate park, where he pinned her against a tree before putting his hands under her clothing.

The women, who were in their early 20s, had both been walking home alone after nights out in the town centre.

A trainee police Constable, Mohammad Hassan, has been charged with the rape and kidnap of a woman.

Greater Manchester Police said a 999 call was received at about 22:20 BST on Saturday during which a woman could be heard in a vehicle in the Manchester area.

It said responding officers arrested off-duty trainee constable after a pursuit which ended on the M62 in West Yorkshire.

The 23-year-old, who has been suspended by the force, has been charged with rape, kidnap, strangulation, sexual assault, theft of a mobile phone and dangerous driving and is due to appear at Manchester Magistrates' Court later.

A force spokesperson said a woman was "safeguarded at the scene and continues to be supported by specialist officers and support services".

A former translator for the British Army, who became a taxi driver after arriving in Scotland from Afghanistan, has been sentenced to seven years in prison after raping a teenage passenger.

Abdul Nabizada, 36, was sentenced at the High Court in Edinburgh on Tuesday after being found guilty at a trial last month.

It was established that Nabizada failed to drive a 19-year-old taxi passenger back to her home after a night out in November 2021.
