A fundraiser for the family of former Cambridge professor Jason Arday has surpassed £30,000 on it's way to a £50,000 target.

Stand Up To Racism has announced plans for a vigil in his memory at the National Gallery in Trafalgar Square, central London, at 6pm on Monday.

The Jason Arday family fundraiser had an initial target of 50k.

Now it has been reached the target has been put up to £110,000.

The largest single donation was for £2004.

An Eritrean man (no public images of the rapist made available) raped a male pensioner outside a church while traffic and pedestrians passed nearby unaware.

Bruke Desalagne, 33, dragged an elderly man behind a hoarding at St John’s Church in Harrow, north London, in an attempt to conceal his actions.

But a witness saw some of the 20-minute assault from her window and phoned the police.

A jury at Harrow Crown Court found Desalagne guilty of rape after viewing CCTV of the prolonged attack, which also showed cars and a double-decker London bus passing close to the scene. He will be sentenced in the autumn.

The assault – which happened on a grass verge outside the church at around midnight on July 23 last year – was also partially captured by a witness on her phone, and she later handed this to police.

Desalagne, who used an interpreter throughout proceedings, initially said he had been trying to help his inebriated victim, who cannot be identified for legal reasons.

A paedophile who told an undercover police officer he 'loved' schoolboys has been jailed for four-and-a-half years.

Gurpreet Singh, 25, from Wolverhampton, was caught in a sting operation after messaging what he believed was a 14-year-old gay boy online.

Wolverhampton Crown Court heard Singh asked "shall we meet and have fun?" and admitted "I like youngsters" during weeks of grooming conversations. He also sent explicit videos and suggested meeting in a hotel.

Singh replied "I love under-18 boys" when told the decoy's age and boasted "I have experience with virgins" when the fake profile claimed to be sexually inexperienced.

Times must be really hard.
