A 33-year-old man has been found guilty of murdering his new teenage partner's baby son after playing a video game "throughout" the night.
Jurors convicted unemployed Kieran Humphreys of the murder of six-month-old Archie Woodbridge, in Houghton Regis, Bedfordshire, on 9 February 2024.
Prosecutors said Archie had been "gripped and shaken" by Humphreys and the judge described the case as "difficult and tragic".
A jury at Luton Crown Court heard how Archie's mother, Saskia Woodbridge, who was 19 and lived in nearby Leighton Buzzard, had begun a relationship with Humphreys after meeting him in a shop about a week before her son was killed.
Jurors heard Ms Woodbridge, now 20, had left Archie alone with the killer while she went to a nail salon.

Scientists have said that Epstein Barr Virus is likely the cause of Lupus.
โWe think it applies to 100% of lupus cases,โ said Prof William Robinson, a professor of immunology and rheumatology at Stanford University and the studyโs senior author. โI think it really sets the stage for a new generation of therapies that could fundamentally treat and thereby provide benefit to lupus patients.โ
These findings would add impetus to clinical trials for an EBV vaccine, which are already under way. There are also several teams exploring repurposing cancer treatments designed to wipe out B cells for severe cases of lupus.

Dozens of patients were put at risk after two of the UK's leading transplant centres continued fitting a heart device - despite knowing of concerns it had a higher mortality rate than its rival product.
Leading cardiologists at both hospitals were paid consultants for the device's manufacturer. The hospitals were aware of this.
Concerns were raised by the NHS about the device in 2018. Of the patients who were subsequently fitted with the mechanical pump, half went on to die within three years.
