The rules package is fine. People will say, look this why the 20 held their vote —look at the wonderful results it yielded! But imo the act of saying “Fuck you, Kevin McCarthy—you’re not getting our vote” was far more consequential than anything in this package. Investigations will drag on and there are far too many checks and balances in the Senate and White House for any of this to mean anything. I am more interested in letting Republicans know we are not going to give the reins of power to shitty legislators hell bent on our demise simply because they have an R next to their name. The protest itself was the goal, though many in the commentariat will insist it was just a tactic to get this rules package—which, again, won’t give us the change we want. That will come from stubborn, relentless, immovable opposition to this dirty system we all justifiably want to see burnt to the ground.
