"On arrival to the ward, I introduced myself to my female patient X. I asked my patient if there was anything I could get her, she replied that she would love a cup OT tea and she was hungry and would like some breakfast. I saw no reason why she could not eat - but I saw a sign NBM (nil by mouth) over her bed. There were no other signs indicating any food eating difficulties, ie stages of food mixing, tolerance or swallowing difficulties. So, I asked the breakfast lady for a cup of tea and some Wheetabix for my patient. The food lady said no as she had previously been told off for giving food to a patient with a 'nil by mouth' over her bed. I do not hold her accountable for saying no as she was following her orders.

At this point I approached a Health Care Assistant and asked her why this lady had NBM and yet she was very much still alive. I asked 'which doctor put this NBM over my patient's bed'. The answer was this particular doctor had put lots of NBM over patient's beds and was known as doctor death".

"I was horrified by this. I then challenged the doctors and was met with no answers and no direction. I asked for pain relief and was told no. My patient had said she was in pain. I had to go to my patient and tell her she could not have any food or pain relief. My patient asked for the toilet when I asked, I was told she should use her pad as she could not get out of bed.

My patient wanted a bed pan. I did ask and I got support to put my patient on the bed pan. She didn't manage to pass anything however she did manage to sit on the bed pan. I got support to wash and change my patient into a clean nightdress. I had to leave my patient as the day progressed as I was getting too overwhelmed at not being able to deliver her needs and felt I was just sitting next to her in bed waiting and watching her die. This as I am sure you will agree is totally inhumane".

"In the next side room was a male patient named Y.
I had supported this patient previously. Two colleagues from the enhanced team were with him. I asked them if I could temporarily swap with one of them as I was struggling emotionally caring for my female patient. Whilst my colleague was with my female patient for 90 minutes, I tried to gather my thoughts as to what was happening.

I saw my colleague actually ignored the NBM sign and gave my patient some cake". "Later when I returned after about 90 minutes, I also gave my female patient X some cake and water even though I was told not to. She was hungry, thirsty and in pain so I do not regret it and would do the same again" "At the end of this shift I asked the next shift nurse to give my female patient X a pain killer and also some food. My patient's bed was changed around 3 times through the day due to her going to the toilet in her pad as no staff were available to support me to support my patient with a bed pan"

"At the same time I was supporting another male patient named Y. I was advised that I should sit outside the patient's 'cohort' bay as there were suspected Covid positive patients on the bay".

As 'enhanced care' we are supposed to be within an arms distance, so if my male patient Y, would have tried to get out of bed, which he did regularly because he was scared confused and wanted to walk, he would have fell over and I would be held accountable as I was not within an arm’s length of him.

Patient Y was in a very bad way with oral care and I spent 13 hours by his side giving him constant oral care offering an array of drinks cold and warm. At times I needed help as my patient wanted to walk which by all accounts he could.

All staff were staying outside the bay except for me so I ended up helping others in that bay too.

One patient in the bed on the right of my male patient was called Z. He had recovered from Covid but was still very much alive too and placed in the same bay as male patient Y.

I witnessed a young doctor call the patient's family and advise them in a solemn tone that their Dad had recovered from Covid however there was no improvement in his health so medical care would be withdrawn. The family asked if they could come to the hospital to say goodbye the doctor replied yes however it is a risk due to Covid spreading. Due to the Doctor's solemn tone and negative advice the family declined. This patient was then left unattended over a period of 7 days or more to die in hospital".

"Although no NBM was placed over him no staff took time to sit and feed this human being or give comfort support fluids any time at all as all were staying outside the cohort bay hiding from Covid". "The only staff who I witnessed offer the patient some support was a young student doctor who was still at University but was helping out.

This young doctor was amazing showing every single one of the ethics we are trained to abide by. He went above and beyond just like I did - giving our time and risking our lives for our patients whilst the other doctors and nurses hid behind the ward station from fear of catching Covid". Patients feel a burden and are often crying with distress and anxiety.

The staff who care are feeling very, very disheartened, anxious and isolated - this is absolutely soul destroying to us. It is impossible to ignore, tolerate or and accept. Families are being allowed in the hospital on discretion to the staff working this is wrong and unacceptable it should not be different rules for individuals and this must be investigated to".

I am not sure if you are aware of this? I do not understand why such isolating devastating life changing, separating, fear mongering measures are being taken within a hospital setting and keeping families especially the children and elderly apart?"

"I am also requesting the guidelines on the care package that doctors have been offering since March and the payments from the government as to what is received in money from the government for a basic care package from the government. What is claimed when a Covid death is recorded in cash and what is given by the government if a patient is ventilated as well due to Covid. I am aware that there is a package and different tariffs. Also are the doctors given the choice as to what to put on the death certificate?" "Where are my 'human rights' and who is protecting me? I am not willing to resign as I am excellent at my role of caring and I love my job. The reason I am where I am is not my fault and now this trust is putting barriers under the disability and equality act for me to be able to return to work.

This highly informative and relevant discussion around COVID-19 and vaccine matters has been made possible by the outstanding research and engagement of former nurse Debi Evans SRN, whose own efforts in these complex fields have resonated with the expert views and analysis of both Dr Anne-Marie Yim and Dr Seligmann.

Dr Anne-Marie Yim is French and of Cambodian origin. She holds a doctorate in organic chemistry from the University of Montpellier, France. She worked as a researcher at the University of Michigan in cancer research, particularly in proteomics (the large-scale study of proteins), and was awarded a research prize in 2001 for her work in identifying membrane proteins, awarded by the Office of Technology Transfer at the University of Michigan.

She has expertise in protein chemistry, with a focus on disulfide bridges in cysteine derivatives and the radical enantioselective synthesis of amino acids both in the homogenous and the supported phase, as she did her thesis in the Laboratory of Aminoacids, Peptides and Proteins at the University of Montpellier, now the IBMM, Max Mousseron Institute.

Her research papers as a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow of the Carcigenosis Program at the University of Michigan Medical School include An immune response manifested by the common occurrence of annexins I and II autoantibodies and high circulating levels of IL6 in lung cancer and Global profiling of the cell surface proteome of cancer cells uncovers an abundance of proteins with chaperone function.
Aside from her specialist scientific and medical work, she holds a wide range of additional qualifications, including in Intellectual Property, Patents and Trademarks.

Dr Hervé Seligmann was an invited professor in 2013-18 at the Emerging Infectious and Tropical Diseases Research Unit, Faculty of Medicine, Aix-Marseille University, Marseilles, France. His qualifications from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem include a B.Sc. in Biology, an M.Sc. in Plant Physiology (thesis: A morphological marker of transitions towards saltadaptation in Sorghum bicolor, supervised by Dr R.H. Lerner, Department of Plant Sciences), and a Ph.D. in lizard microevolution: Microevolution of proneness to tail loss in lizards. He has been the recipient of a Rothschild Fellowship and was a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Chicago and the University of Oslo.

He has written an extensive number of peer-reviewed scientific publications, including on key subjects in the evolution of the genetic code structure, alternative gene decoding, and the multifunctionality of mitochondrial tRNAs.

In Part 1, Dr Yim, Dr Seligmann and Debi Evans SRN discuss a range of relevant topics concerning COVID-19 and vaccines, including:

- What is COVID-19 and where did it come from?

- Damaged babies and death risks after vaccination. (This subject is discussed by Dr Seligmann in more detail in Part 2, using data from Israel.)
