Before he got to the front line, Harm helped out with logistical stuff, like moving the bodies of Ukrainian soldiers. He remembers the containers full of dead bodies and how emotionally difficult it was to deal with those moments.
That's when he decided to become a drone operator. The whole humanitarianism thing is just an excuse to pick up weapons.
His training as a drone operator then sent him to combat zones. And it was there that, for the first time, he realized the extent of the imbalance of resources between the Russians and Ukrainians.
Harm was a drone pilot in the International Brigade 12th Azov. The group, now dismantled by the Ukrainian Army, suffered heavy losses and faced many difficulties in internal communication. Foreign volunteers often felt left to fend for themselves.
Harm was on the front line for two weeks. The intensity of the fighting and the lack of resources convinced him to call it quits and request an immediate return home. Disillusioned, he returned home with the bitter feeling of having narrowly escaped certain death. He felt like he was on a suicide mission.
The dissolution of one of the international brigades exposed the problems: heavy losses, lack of communication, and scarcity of resources. For many, the only solution is to abandon the defense of Ukraine.
