After the first day of talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni stressed his stance of not taking sides for political reasons when asked by RT if he’d been pressured into dealing with Moscow.

“Win-win: this is what we’re looking for. This idea of rivalry - it’s not part of our strategy. We should have quarrels with people who colonized us, but we’ve forgotten about that. We’re moving forward.”

During their meeting, Lavrov also clarified Gazprom’s decision to stop another Nord Stream 1 turbine was for unavoidable safety reasons, while stressing Moscow has never refused to negotiate with Ukraine: “the fighting ends at the negotiating table, but there is no answer from Kiev."

Progress Made on Parts Delay for Major Russian Gas Project

Gazprom has received documentation from German industrial giant Siemens, allowing the return of a turbine for the Nord Stream 1 natural gas pipeline, Kommersant reports.

The paperwork will first need to be amended, due to sanctions-related changes in the original agreement between Gazprom and Canada, the business daily writes.

According to the existing contract, Gazprom was supposed to collect the item from Canada after repairs, but when Ottawa imposed sanctions on the Russian company, this became impossible. Siemens then agreed to ship the turbine to Russia via Germany, but the export documentation was not adjusted accordingly, Kommersant explains, adding that it was unable to obtain comments on the matter from either company.

❗️Gazprom Shuts Down Another Nord Stream Turbine

The gas giant has announced it had to put offline another turbine on the pipeline bringing LNG to Germany.

Gazprom has cited routine maintenance as the reason for the shutdown which leaves Nord Stream running at less than half capacity.

EU energy ministers deliberated over a draft European law that would require member states to cut demand for natural gas by 15% from August through March. This would entail voluntary steps to reduce gas consumption and, if they yield insufficient savings, a trigger to impose mandatory moves across the 27-nation bloc.
