Russian mobile operators propose to ban voice calls in WhatsApp* and Telegram messengers:
The initiative of the "big four" was announced at the end of May at a session on the development of the telecommunications industry. The companies justify it by the growth of equipment costs due to sanctions, the increase in Internet traffic and the need for additional income. The Antimonopoly Service previously rejected the proposal to raise tariffs.
In addition to financial difficulties, operators express serious concern about the planned introduction of financial compensation for damages for the passage of traffic from cyber fraudsters, arguing that most attacks are carried out through these messengers. In their opinion, blocking will return some calls to traditional networks, reduce the number of frauds and remove the main claims from law enforcement agencies, avoiding a complete blocking of platforms. The Ministry of Digital Development has not yet made a decision.
There is an opinion that the statement of the operators was initially pushed through by the security forces in order to begin the process of total control of the Internet.
In turn, journalist Anastasia Kashevarova said that a "creeping" blocking of WhatsApp* has already begun in Russia. However, the blogger's previous forecast about blocking the messenger from August 1 did not come true.
According to her, failures in calls via mobile Internet are the first test steps on the part of Roskomnadzor. At the same time, calls via Wi-Fi and VPN are still working without interruptions.

Ramzan Kadyrov, Churka leader of Chechnya and Putin's close ally, and 29 of his close relatives have been awarded an astonishing 146 different awards and insignia since the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. That's one honor every 40 days on average.
Several dubious honors include Kadyrov receiving the Order "For Merit to the Dental Profession" from the Russian Dental Association, as well as gold and silver medals "For Merits in Improving the Safety of Nuclear Power Plants" while there is no nuclear power plant in Chechnya.
Other medals presented to Ramzan Kadyrov include awards for "high achievements in the field of architecture", being an "honorary worker of the agro-industrial complex" and being an "excellent ambulance worker."
In second place in terms of the number of awards in the Kadyrov clan is the son of the head of Chechnya, Adam Kadyrov, who is considered the heir of Ramzan - he was awarded 16 medals and insignia. Moreover, exactly half of them were received by Kadyrov's son within two months - October and November 2023 - after the story of the beating of Nikita Zhuravel in the pre-trial detention center. In total, since February 2022, Adam Kadyrov has one state and five regional awards, six departmental medals, three awards from organizations and one international (the medal "Guest of Honour of Libya").
