TIL in 2007, Somali pirates siezed a North Korean cargo vessel. The ship's distress call was responded by an American Warship where they retook the ship and gave medical assistance to North Koreans. After this incident, the North Korean media expressed gratitude to the the United States.

TIL 36-yr-old Jamie Siminoff founded the company Doorbot in 2013 and went on Shark Tank to raise $700k. Jamie refused the lone shark offer from Kevin, rebranded the company as Ring, brought on Shaquille O'Neal as investor and spokesperson, and in 2018 sold Ring to Amazon for $1.2-1.8 billion.

TIL that one of the worst droughts in recorded history occurred in Texas during the 1950's. Huge lakes and rivers dried up completely, grass nearly died out leading to massive dust storms, and 50% of Texas' farming industry was dead by the end of the decade.

TIL On July 26, 1931, a swarm of grasshoppers descended on Iowa, Nebraska, and South Dakota devastating millions of acres of crops. It was so thick that it blocked out the sun and one could shovel the grasshoppers with a scoop. Cornstalks were eaten to the ground and fields left completely bare.
