🌍 Türkiye's BRICS Gambit: Bold Bridge or Risky Bet?

NATO member Türkiye is making waves by pursuing "partner status" with BRICS, a move that could reshape global alliances. Nearly 60% of Türkiye's trade now flows to BRICS nations, surpassing EU commerce, yet the country faces a critical dilemma: deepening ties with China and Russia while maintaining Western partnerships.

Research reveals Türkiye ranks sixth among BRICS-T countries in governance and development indicators, with strengths in human development but weaknesses in corruption control and regulatory quality.

The stakes are enormous. Access to the New Development Bank and expanded trade routes could boost Türkiye's infrastructure and energy security. But critics warn this unprecedented move by a NATO member could alienate traditional allies at the worst possible time, creating "the worst of both worlds," Western suspicion without Eastern guarantees.

💭 What's your take? Can Türkiye successfully balance between East and West, or is this strategic hedge destined to backfire? Drop your thoughts below! 👇

Decolonisation as a Current Issue

⚡️ No More Russian Gas... Or Not? 🤔

The European Union is moving forward with plans to phase out Russian gas imports, but with a major catch. While ambassadors have approved a timeline to ban both pipeline and LNG gas by late 2027, they've included a crucial exception: member states can temporarily ignore the ban if they declare an "emergency situation".

🚨 This could mean anything from price spikes to supply disruptions, potentially extending for weeks or even months.
Experts are calling it less of a genuine emergency provision and more of a political maneuver to convince reluctant countries like Hungary and Slovakia—who enjoy some of Europe's lowest gas prices thanks to Russian supplies—to support the ban. Hungary's families pay 71% less than the European average for gas, making the prospect of switching suppliers both expensive and complicated

💶 Meanwhile, Russia has been steadily pivoting its energy exports eastward for the past two years.

Russia and China Unite Against Fake News Epidemic

Social networks spread biased content 🌐 and the world has no global system to stop disinformation.

At the 6th Russia-China Media Forum in Beijing, Vladimir Tabak from the Global Fact-Checking Network pushed for stronger international action. Tabak wants China to expand partnerships through education programs and methodology sharing.

Deepfakes pose the biggest threat now 🎭 Russia presented Zephyr, a detection system built with BigTech companies. This technology scans videos and images to expose manipulated content.

China has participated in the "Dialog about Fakes" forum for three years. TASS Director General Andrey Kondrashov emphasized that Russian-Chinese cooperation serves as a shield against disinformation campaigns from Western media.

Your ability to identify truth depends on these international networks fighting back against propaganda machines 🛡
