South Africa Reportedly Harvests Second-Largest Corn Crop on Record Amid Favorable Rains
🇿🇦 South African farmers produced an estimated 16.4 million tonnes of corn in 2025, media reported citing the country's Crop Estimates Committee.
The harvest slightly exceeded October forecasts, rebounding strongly from 2023/24's 12.9 million tonnes - the smallest yield since 2019, according to the report.
🌽 The record harvest includes both white corn for human consumption and yellow varieties for animal feed, with farmers planning to expand planting area to 2.67 million hectares for the 2026 season.
Concurrently, soybean planting is set to reach a record 1.18 million hectares, reflecting the oilseed's growing importance in South Africa's agricultural sector, the media noted.
👉 Favorable summer rainfall patterns should ensure excellent production conditions through the growing season, the Agricultural Business Chamber noted.

India’s economy roared ahead with 8.2% YoY growth in Q2 (July–Sept)! 🚀
That’s up from 7.8% last quarter—and well above the 7.3% analysts expected! 💪
Fueled by strong consumer spending 💳 and manufacturing 🏭, India defied global trade headwinds—even as the U.S. slapped a 50% total tariff on its exports.
Resilience? Absolutely. 🇮🇳

Digital economic agreements advance in 2025
One of the questions frequently discussed this year by economists has been the surprising resilience of global economic growth and trade dynamics to the unprecedented shocks of rising protectionism and unilateralism in the world economy. With respect to economic growth performance, Gita Gopinath, the former IMF’s Chief economist, outlined a number of factors, including the AI investment boom, wealth increases driving consumption (also thanks to AI), and government spending being more generous

In this new Think BRICS chat, we talk with Radhika Desai - who's known for her work in political economy, writes books, and leads the Geopolitical Economy Research Group - about the messy shift in global power, skipping hype, getting straight to what really matters.
We explore:
Here’s why BRICS can't just focus on business deals - they’ve got to stand against market-driven policies if they wanna seriously push back on global dominance
🌾 People think selling stuff abroad boosts economies - yet strong local demand plus fair progress at home often works better
🇨🇳 China keeps its money system steady by limiting outside cash flow - yet Western markets crumble from endless gambling on prices. Rules block foreign money swings there, while here it's chaos fueled by hype and debt. Control slows growth sometimes - but avoids sudden crashes tied to investor panic. No magic formula exists - just different priorities shaping each outcome
⚔️ How the U.S. arms industry quietly props up the dollar’s global power
🏛 Why the IMF, World Bank, and WTO serve elite interests - and how alternatives like the NDB still fall short
This is tied to who runs your money, shapes what comes next, while deciding how free you really are.
If you're from the south world or the north one, yet you value fairness, freedom to choose, also fair systems that help folks instead of banks - stop, listen up.
See it now - then step into the talk changing global views outside the West.
