UPDATE - Reports of at least one ship boarded and hijacked by armed individuals, multiple other ships in the area have apparently "lost control" of their steering under unclear circumstances.

Iranian-backed forces are believed to have seized an oil tanker off the coast of the UAE, according to Reuters – the incident follows a suspected drone attack on an Israeli-linked vessel last week, blamed on Iran.

Happening now in the Gulf of Oman:

▪️A group of 8 or 9 ARMED individuals have boarded a vessel named the Asphalt Princess (Sky News citing security source)

▪️The UK Maritime Trade Operations called the incident a “potential hijack” off the coast of the UAE

▪️At least 4 vessels have sent out warnings they have “lost control” of steering (AP)

▪️Oil tankers Queen Ematha, Golden Brilliant, Jag Pooja, and Abyss all reported that they were “not under command” – according to MarineTraffic.com – typically meaning a vessel has lost power and cannot steer

▪️Tehran called reports 'suspicious' and warned of 'false atmosphere' against Iran.
